A/N, 2023: behold, the first chapter where a major plot point gets shifted! It makes me pretty glad that I changed it, being honest. It made the characterization of the OC/reader a lot harder in later chapters, and I truly hope you like this newer version like I do! No more trigger warnings for this one, :D

[Name] couldn't help but once more grit his teeth in absolute fury. Then, he saw the hair of the man. Fiery red, long, and semi-curly.
"Hey, Tsumugi, whose hair is this?" [Name] innocently asked, peering at a wig with the aforementioned traits. "Oooo, you're looking at a wig that resembles the hair of Diluc, one of the most popular characters from one of the few games I've taken interest in!" Tsumugi gushed. "Wow! It's so incredibly detailed. Can you tell me more about Diluc then?" [Name] asked. "Of course! The game itself is named Genshin Impact, and he's the owner of a famous winery called Dawn Winery! According to the game, he holds immense power over the whole industry, despite the ironic fact of himself not liking alcohol all that much. He seeks to protect an entire city named Mondstadt from their enemies to the point where the residents themselves gave him the name of 'Darknight Hero', much to his distaste." She giggled afterward and then asked - "Would you want to try on a cosplay of him? He's so cool, even though his personality is known as the harshest out there!"
[Name] blinked back to reality a bit more slowly than he would've liked. It really seemed to be way too absurd to be true, in all honesty. Themself, stuck in a place where video game characters and places exist? What kind of luck was that? How would something like that even happen? They had spent enough time with Tsumugi to know about things like the isekai genre, but this was different. They weren't hit with a truck or anything; they would remember that part for sure.
Though to be fair, that COULD have happened...with you being covered in blood and all. Extremely doubtful, yes, but it could have happened, with your memory being torn to pieces. No, no, this wasn't the time to be speculating whether or not you got hit with a truck.
Sighing, you shook your head to snap yourself out of the intrusive thoughts; really, you had too many of them. However, it does suck not to have witnessed the cool anime transition if you had really gone from one world to another. '[NAME]! focus already! Geez!' Oh right...whoops. You might be looking incredibly unintelligent to the people in front of you right now.
... You definitely are, as you're not even looking at them! Realizing this, you quickly tilted your head back up, flushing as you caught them staring at you. You cleared your throat, desperately trying to save grace while in an outfit covered with blood and dirt.
Also known as not being successful in the slightest.
"Um, hi? I just stumbled in here, and I'm pretty lost. I'm not going to lie, but I do have people that I want to find." Well, that definitely wasn't as eloquent as you would've liked it to be. Wait, you didn't even give them your name! Quickly, before they ask and embarass you further! Also, you can save some eloquence points if you add in a flourish! Obeying those thoughts was certainly not difficult. The side of you that loves a bit of theater sighed in satisfaction as you (rather dramatically) flourished and added, "Oh right, and I'm [Name]. It's nice to meet you, Mr...?"
It might just be a cosplayer. It might just be random cosplayers. Though those thoughts were gone when he finished speaking.
"Diluc, of Mondstadt. What's your business here?"
Well, at least it seems that Tsumugi wasn't kidding about his personality. However, if what she said was right, you needed this man on your side. He's the owner of a huge business that has funds and power.
You aimed for a sly smile, hoping that it would do something, like assure him that your mind is sane. You did need to say or do a gesture back. Hmm, maybe your words would save you.
