Chapter 13

I think I promised I'd update today to a couple people and the time just flewwww by haha so better late than never right???

My toes make little circles in the flour on the counter as I devour a cookie. Haha yeah, I know very sanitary right but I figured if it was goin' in the trash anyway why  not have some fun with it. I pull my knees closer to my chest as I brush the white powder from my feet and glance over at Liam.

His eyes immedialty drop back down to his phone and I can't help but smile at the fact he was watching me.

"Who ya textin'?" I ask, talking very informal. It was something I liked to do to him since he had that amazing british accent and mine kind of southern.

"Niall." My heart flutters as he drags out the name and I pinch my leg numbly, as if the short and small pain would stop my feelings like that.

I laugh, at Liam's pronunciation or my own thoughts I'm unsure. "Does he want to come over for dinner?" It's a simple offer and I extend it without thought.

He laughs immediatly. "He was just asking about your cooking himself. He really likes being over here.....I think he has a crush on the neighbor-Em. Emma? Ri-"

"Emily." I interject harshly almost and I'm rewarded with a bewildered look.

"Know her?"

My mouth feels dry and I don't know how to answer. I knew her. So well. She was my best friend. His best friend. Our best friend-more.

We had even chosen this house because she could live next door. It was one of few things, even now, that helped my mom sleep peacefully at night while I was away. I tried visiting her often but she got most of my summers that I figured she would survive from holiday to holiday.

Emily and I hadn't talked in what felt like forever but I could still recall every detail of her personality. Her shy smile. The booming laugh that you'd never expect to come from her tiny frame. The sparkling blue eyes that would shed tears instantly at sadness and harden against cruel remarks.

She was strange, that girl. But in ways that made her irresistable once you knew her.

I hope she hasn't changed in the past year like I have.

They'd be good for eachother. My mind is tugged back to the present as I realise Liam is still waiting for an answer.

"Oh, um." I stumble. " I guess."

He doesn't look satisfied with my half answer but lets it be. "Okk then...Well Niall says he'd be happy to come." He smiles at me and I love how relaxed he looks just sitting in my messy kitchen.

"What shall we make then?" I raise my eyebrows mischieveously, reaching for another cookie.

"Love, no one uses the word shall anymore." Liam laughs and my stomach flips. I still wasn't used to him calling me love, even though he did it to a lot of people apparently.

"News flash," I say, as he picks himself up and moves towards me. "I just did." A smug smile lights my face for a moment, even though I even know myself it's a bad comeback, before he wraps his hands around my sides. I straighten my legs once I'm off the counter and he puts me down.

"Whatever. Let's just get going-I'm hungry and cookies are only so filling." I roll my eyes. What a party pooper. I think sarcastically, laughing aloud at my own joke. He doesn't seem to notice.

I hear a car door slam and peak outside the window toward Emily's house. My eyes light up as I see her kick the side of her car before falling to the ground, hugging her foot.

Same old Em...

I sigh and a little weight is lifted off me. I don't know what it's from or who even put it there but it's easier to breath. Only by a little bit but still better than before.

Liam gives me another weird look but I ignore it, bumping him out of my way as I open the fridge. Niall and Liam were going to eat me out of house and home at this rate, but for some reason I found the thought comforting.

Laterrrr that day

"No Niall I'm not going to make you meat loaf!! Meat loaf is nasty!!" I squeal before getting up to put my dish in the sink. I hear a couple chuckles behind me as Niall sighs in defeat.

They'd been over for almost 2 hours now, Zayn and Niall. I found it amusing that Zayn wanted to come when he heard I was making chicken and speghetti; an odd combo but I do crave some weird things every once in a while.

I hear the engine grumble of a car and my eyes can't help but lift to the window again. The noise dies immediatly though and I know Emily's car must be malfunctioning like it always does.

I glance over at Niall to see he's watching her too. Supressing a laugh, I give Liam a look as if to say "Ahhhh I see now." He gives a nod in understanding, the corners of his lips tugging upward.

"Niall? Will you go tell Emily she can use my car to get to practice?" I toss him my key from the jar by my vitamins. I felt proud that I still remembered her schedule like the back of my hand. She was an amazing swimmer and would always have to practice around this time.

He catches the ring of keys easily and his face lights up even brighter. "Okk.." Niall tries to hide his excitement but we can all see it as he rushes out of the house. I don't bother to watch for him through the window, might as well give them some privacy.

"Smooth." Zayn says, leaning back in his chair casually.

"That's just how I roll I guess." I put on a "cool" expression and we all roar in laughter together instantly.

This is how it should be. Me happy, I mean. And I am, because love makes people happy, even if they know it's so wrong.

Ahhhhh so yess Niall's got a little crush eh? And then Emily and Courtney are friends...or were? But what happened.

Think Courtney should end up with Harry? Or are you a die hard Liam one here?

Vote, fan, comment, whatever ya feel like. Tell me your thoughts at least haha-good and bad.

THANKS!!!!!
