Chapter 5
It's 2:24 when I hear the knock. I sigh deeply, grieving for the 6 other minutes I had hoped to spend without him. I scurry off the coach in my assigned room and take slow calm footsteps towards the door. It doesn't so much as creak when I turn the nob and thrust it open.
Curious brown eyes meet my own. My eyes itch to find the floor as my cheeks heat up. I have willpower though and my gaze is locked. Don't get all mooshy on me here though-I'm only like this cuz he's the first boy to ever come into my dorm really and in the shape it's in right now I should be embarrassed.
I've only realised how long we've been standing like this when I remember I'd counted his blinks. 32. Liam doesn't seem to notice or much less care though so I say nothing as I lead him in.
"Wanna do it at the kitchen table? I offer, averting my eyes from my cleanly made bed. It is the beacon during the hurricane mess of my room. My room which happens to be an open loft with the kitchen concealed through a doorless slot. Not necessarily the best choose but I figured I would be able to work with it somehow.
"Sure." I can hear the smile through his thick accent. The goose bumps on my arms raise and I have to hold in a laugh at my body's reaction to foreign talk.
Liam follows obediently into my sandy tiled kitchen and sets his bag down in the same chair as mine. I sit criss cross apple sauce in my chair and set my stack of books in front of me. Cracking my knuckles with a smirk I glance up to see him studying me instead of his new and unfamiliar surroundings. My mouth instinctively swallows as i try to digest the thick layer of awkwardness in the room.
"Shall we start with science?" He says, breaking me out of my trance with a shy grin. I nod, my heart beginning its normal thumping again as I prepared to start my favorite subjects homework.
"You eatin' lunch yet?" I ask, trying to be curtious but it comes out flat and emotionless. I mean to sound all business but i know my voice holds little hues of that when I'm sitting in my own kitchen and Liam's being well Liam.
I have only known him for about a week now but already we have been assigned every single project imaginable but I cant really find anything to complain about. We work very well together and seem to be able to bounce ideas back and forth all day long without finding any boredom in it. He is nice.
Perky.
Smarter than I would've expected.
But most importantly easy to get a long with.
He's a better person than I had thought..I can't help but wonder what else I'm wrong about.
I check the clock again and realize I'm in a safe zone-it is lunch time. My stomach grumbles in reassurance.
"No." He laughs lightly and I can't contain the pull my lips are doing upward. I smile. Just slightly, smally before I'm up and out of my chair. "Sorry I just forgot-was um too excited bout earths elements huh?"
I give a rough laugh at Liam's stumble and move to check the fridge for food. This was the beginning. The beginning of Liam and my friendship.
My new chance.
The start of something else....
