❀Maeve POV❀
I glance around at all the boxes in my room and sigh, brushing the small beads of sweat off of my forehead. Packing is truly a chore I will never begin to enjoy.
"Come on sweetheart we have to pack the car!" My mom yells up from the front yard.
I hold a thumb out the window and begin to carry my boxes down.❀
Arriving at the school, a few girls come to the car to help out with boxes. They were seniors and total jackasses, doing favors to kiss up to our dean. Nonetheless, I appreciate the help.
"Be careful with that one please, it's fragile!" I pointedly exclaimed watching the blonde thrash my box labeled 'crystals!!'She nods defiantly, and carefully picks up the box.
The outside of the school is old and rustic looking, similar to an old castle.
It's the one thing I look forward to.
The walls and architecture are elegant and vintage. The air inside is cold; the smell of dust and books is prominent.I make my way to the dorm hall and begin my stroll up the long, squeaky stairs. You'd think they'd invest in an elevator.
My room is at the very end of the hall, separated from the rest having only one room across from it.
No one has used that room all the years I've been here. I don't know why exactly. Maybe wall damage?I open my room door to see it exactly how I left it, besides a small layer of dust delicately laid atop my desk and books.
I let out a huff of breath and plop down on my bed.Out the corner of my eye I see blurs of color out of my window, the rest of the girls are starting to arrive.
I know most people who go here, the same people usually come every year.
A lot of the girls here are spoiled rotten yet incredibly smart. Few students got in solely from academics.
One of them being me.❀
I hear a thump across the hall causing me to jump and let out a squeak.
Confused, I continue to listen in hearing shuffling sounds. That's weird?
I open my door slowly to see that the door across mine is cracked open and almost instantaneously I notice what looked like a shadowy figure moving back and forth.
For a second, and against better judgement, I wonder if the schools old enough to be haunted.
I shiver at the thought and slowly make my way across the hall, opening the door.Suddenly I wish it was only a ghost.
"Maeve."
"River." My lips curl slightly at the feel of her name leaving my mouth, before questions start to flood my mind.
"Why are you here?"She laughs and arches a perfectly manicured brow at me.
"Darling, the last time I checked this was a school. Why else would I be here?"
I furrow my brows hating how she was trying to make me seem stupid.
"Yes but why this school? I thought you were too good to go here."
She runs a hand through her black silky hair and clicks her tongue."Well, my mother thought it would be a good idea to send me here, so here I am. Now, are you done questioning me Quinn?"
I just glare at her and turn on my heels. I hate that woman. I hate her perfect smooth flawless skin, her amazing posture, her healthy silky hair the resembles the night sky, her beautiful grey cat like eyes, the way her nails are always painted perfectly;
UGH.
I let out a frustrated groan and continue to unpack.
Class doesn't start until next week, I'm not sure what I'll do in the mean time.❀
I make my way back down the annoyingly loud stairs to get dinner. In the kitchen four girls are already there.
Violet, a small ginger girl with freckles dotting her entire face. Her hair resembling fire. She's the youngest in our grade.
Veda, she's a tall blonde, definitely a spoiled brat but once you get to know her she's very sweet. Her eyes are the bluest shade I've ever seen. I envy her a bit.
Sage, she's the same height as me, African American with beautiful thick curly hair. Her eyes the warmest shade of brown. She's one of the nicest girls I've ever met.
Lastly, there's River.I slip in and take a seat next to sage.
"Hi Maeve!" She smiles warmly at me showing off her perfectly white teeth. Her smile is so contagious.
"How was your summer?" She asks folding her hands over her lap neatly.
"It was alright, I didn't do much besides read."
We continue to make small talk until River comes and sits at the table.I look up and make direct eye contact with her, she immediately looks away.
I suddenly feel a tension no one else seems no notice.
After grabbing a plate of food, I clear my throat and politely excuse myself.
❀I light a few candles and settle into bed, grabbing my book for the night. The book consisted of religions, spirituality, spells, and tons of stuff usually labeled "taboo" to your average conservative.
I've always been interested in spirituality, it's such a fun and beautiful thing.
Halfway through my book I'm interrupted by, my oh, so lovely, neighbor.
She's playing her electric guitar. I normally wouldn't mind but considering it's nearly 11pm and she's right across the hall, it's very loud.Swinging my legs over the edge of my bed with a sigh, I pull my robe on and make my way across the hall.
"River!" I whisper-shout rapidly knocking on her door, only to be ignored. I'm hardly surprised no one else has said anything, especially to her.
I continue to knock harder until I'm full on pounding and she finally opens the door."Pardon?" She arches a brow aggravating me immensely.
"Could you pleaseee quiet down. You're not the only one on this floor, people are trying to sleep."
She smirks, the small dimple on her cheek getting deeper."No one else seems to have a problem with it besides you darling."
I roll my eyes, "Yeah well no one else is directly across from you. So shut up." I snap at her.
She only seems to be amused.
"Sure, my bad." Then proceeds to, overly aggressively, shut the door in my face.I scoff and frustratedly make my way back to my room.
❀
I rinse my face under the sink and frown at my reflection.
I hurriedly turn out the light and sink into the sheets of my bed.
Right as I close my eyes, loud guitar music vibrates the walls."RIVER!"
