❤︎Maeve's POV❤︎

Today is the day we go to my house for the family get together thing. All week River has seemed super anxious.

She won't tell me why, she just shrugs it off as if it's nothing.

Sitting in class, I was zoning out the window. I notice a pretty black crow, perched up on the nearby branch.

I smile at it. It opens its mouth, seeming to crow then abruptly dashes into the window.

I let out a gasp and flinch back, falling from my desk chair.

The whole class looks at me. Some of them giggling and whispering.

"Miss Quinn, are you alright?" The teachers voice was full of concern.

I look over to River, she looked concerned as well. My throat runs dry.

"I uh, yeah I'm okay." I murmur shyly, looking out the window where the crow crashed into it. There was no sign of the event ever happening.

Maybe I need to get more sleep?

The bell rings and I shuffle my stuff together and throw my bag over my shoulder.

"What was that about?" Rivers eyes were trailing over my facial features.

I shrug, "Nothing, I don't know, I need some sleep."

She nods seeming to understand, "We can go to my room for a nap?"

I smile and mutter a small 'okay' and follow her up the stairs.

♡︎

When I wake, River was under me. My head laying on her chest. Her hand in my hair.

I smile softly and place a gentle kiss to her chest.

"Good morning sunshine! Well, afternoon." River laughs softly.

I smile and cuddle more into her warmth letting out a hum of happiness.

She presses a kiss my my head. "Are you nervous for when we leave?"

I shrug, still a bit drowsy from just waking up.

"I am. Our..interesting mothers in one room." She shivers jokingly to add to the dramatics.

I laugh at her and lift my head, looking at the clock.

"Oh my god rivs we have to pack!" I squeal.

She lets out a huff of air. "Maeve, babe, we still have almost three hours."

My cheeks warm. "I like to get a head start."

She giggles at me as I stand up and stretch.

"You're a very comfy pillow." I add with a shrug to which she nods in agreement.

"It's because of my amazing boobs." She giggles feigning confidence.

I laugh letting out a 'pfffttt' sound. "Whatever floats your boat."

She gasps, pretending to be offended. "Are you saying my boobs aren't amazing? Ya know what. I'll remember that."

I laugh and chuck my pillow at her.

♡︎

Walking to the front entrance, a bad feeling was settling in my stomach.

I blow out a huff of air, trying to relax my tense body. River looked tense as well.

I try to reason with myself, 'it's just your house Maeve get a grip,' but no matter how much I try, this feeling won't shake off.

The same limo that drove us to River's house was here, except the driver was different.

"Ready?" I ask River, she smiles with a small nod.

We hop into the limo, handing the driver our bags.

♡︎

River was sitting sideways in her seat, her legs on my lap. "Why is this taking so longgg." She groans in disapproval.

I laugh, "It usually doesn't, maybe the driver just took a different route?"

Tick, tick, tick.

She shrugs and plays with a strand of her hair.

I look out the window. The roads were pretty empty, I don't recognize my surroundings.

Tick, tick, tick.

"Did you take a weird route?" I call to the driver. He doesn't respond or even glance in my direction.

I furrow my eyebrows. Rude.

River sits up, pulling her legs off my lap as the car comes to an abrupt stop.

Tick, tick, tick.

Another man walks up to the car, the driver gets out to talk to him.

River and I focus out the window, trying to listen in on their conversation.

The driver then comes to Rivers door, grabbing the handle and opening it.

The strange man does the same with mine.

"What are we-" my thoughts were cut off by a rag being placed against my face.

I struggle in the mans hold, thrashing my arms and legs wildly.

My fight or flight kicks in. I punch back at the guy.

"Just breathe kid, let's get this over with."

Tick, tick, tick.

Not being able to hold my breath any longer I take in a gasp of air, breathing in the chemicals on the rag.

My vision blurs, the last thing I see is River sitting in the seat beside me. Her hands under her thighs as if she's restraining herself.

"I'm so sorry Maeve."

Tick.
