♡︎Maeve's POV♡︎
I wake to a small pressure on my waist. I open my eyes, squinting at the sun peering through the windows.
River was laying with her head on my chest and her arm around my waist. I smile down at her.
I believe that she wasn't apart of what happened to me, or at least didn't want to be. Yet, somethings not adding up.
I caress her cheek gently causing her eyes to flutter open.
"Good morning love." I say softly, pecking her forehead.
She smiles softly and cuddles more into my chest, her head on my breasts.
"Hi." She mumbles softly, her words ticking my skin.
I smile down at her then groan, realizing the gravity of our current situation.
Where will we go?
Shuffling on the bed breaks me out of my thoughts. I look over to River watching her stretch. Her thin tanktop rising, exposing the soft skin of her stomach.
She is so effortlessly pretty. Her lips were plump from just waking up. Her eyes still sleepy looking.
Her hair was messy from sleep.
"What happens now?" I ask, my voice soft yet still a bit raspy from just waking up.
"Breakfast?" River smiles which causes me to let out a small laugh.
"Definitely."

After stuffing our faces, River and I showered and began to pack.
I really hate packing. Even if it is only the few items of clothing we have.
"We could go to Florida? Or uhh Canada? I heard the people are nice in Canada."
I laugh at River, "Going to another country is too complicated, especially since we are broke."
River nods and scratches the back of her neck. "So Florida?"
I lean my head against the window of the car. River was driving steadily down the long road, one hand on my thigh.
"Ya know, I really should make you drive."
I laugh at her and roll my eyes, "I mean sure, if you want to die."
River laughs and takes her hand off my thigh to crank up the radio.
What started as soft humming became a full blown dance party and screaming at the top of our lungs.
"MOUNT EVEREST AINT GOT SHIT ON ME! CAUSE IM ON TOP OF THE WORLD! IM ON TOP OF THE WORLD, YEAH!"
I let out a belly laugh as River continued to scream the lyrics, the warm air coming in from the windows blowing her hair around.
A sign then came into view, "Florida."

We stop at a gas station and McDonald's to get gas and food. River and I trying to come up with what to do now.
"We're going to have to get jobs." River groans out to me while pumping gas into the car.
I laugh, "Oh, you poor thing."
She nods in agreement and takes the pump from the car and places it back on the hook.
"I'm tired of driving. We should go to the beach, we're in Florida after all."
I nod. "We'd need swim suits though."
River smirks at me, "Do we though? Swim suits look just like underwear."
"Fine but you're buying me new ones."
River laughs at me and gets into the car, I follow behind.
We arrive at the beach, quickly stripping to our underwear and running towards the water.
I laugh whole heartedly as I watch River trip over sand. "Not funny." She mumbles under her breath.
I giggle at her and step into the water, immediately jumping away from the coldness.
"Oh don't be a wuss puss." River teased, walking deeper into the ocean.
"It is freezing!" I yelped backing away more.
"Yeah yeah."
I sat down on the sand feeling the breeze brush against my skin.
The sun was setting by now, the colors a beautiful hue.
I watched as River swam, her dark hair sticking to her back and shoulders, water dripping down her body.
I promised myself to bring up what happened and talk to her about it. Yet, I just can't bring myself to it.
I don't want to ruin this small amount of peace.
River leaves the water, walking up to me reaching her hands out for a hug.
"Absolutely not. You're freezing."
She giggles and quickly wraps me in a hug causing me to groan. "Riverrr I swear to gods"
"What did I do?" She shrugged, faking innocence.
I roll my eyes, a small smile gracing my lips and pull her towards the car.
"We have to find another motel."

River and I have showered, spending even more money on a crappy motel.
We were now in bed, laying beside each other.
"River?" I ask, my voice slightly trailing off.
"Hm?" She hummed sleepily.
"You promise you didn't have anything to do with happened? I know I should be more upset with you but, I don't know." I mumbled to her, all my doubts quickly leaving my mouth.
She perked up at this, her body slightly tensing. "I never wanted to be apart of it. Though, I never really had a choice. She told me that if I disobeyed, I'd become the next sacrifice."
My eyebrows furrow as a frown etches itself onto my face at Rivers confession.
Before I could say anything she continued. "I tried to stay out of it as much as I could. Especially after I realized I was in love with you. I never wanted you to get hurt but there was nothing I could do. It made me feel so so weak Maeve."
Her voice cracked at the end of her sentence.
I pull her closer to me so that her head rested on my chest. I press a small kiss to her temple.
"She killed my father." River revealed in a hush tone.
My eyes widened in shock, holding on to the now trembling girl tighter.
"I couldn't lose you to her too."
I run my fingers through her hair, pressing gentle kisses to her head. "Shh I'm right here, safe and sound. All because of you. You saved me River. I love you so much."
She cuddled in closer to me, her fingers under my shirt soaking in my warmth.
We fall asleep, the harsh confessions lingering in the air around us.
"You thought you escaped? Once you're apart of the community-you're always apart of the community. Watch your back."
