-Maeve's POV-

Hours later, River and I are sitting in our living room.
The air around us tense, as fear seeped through every pore of our bodies.

Her mother clearly knew where we lived. Why hasn't she done anything yet? When will she do something?

Small beads of sweat began to collect on my forehead-my clothes suddenly feeling too tight.

Neither of us have muttered a word to each other, somewhat scared to disrupt the silence.

I slowly get up-the movement seeming to startle River as her eyes snap to mine.

"I'm going to have a shower." I say softly.

River nods and focuses back to her hands looking to be in deep thought. The furrowing of her eyebrows creating a small crease between the two.

I slowly pad out of the living room and into the bathroom.
The quietness of the house was beginning to bother me more than it should.
My body was on high alert.

I flicked the light on, quickly peeking behind the door and shower curtain-just in case.

I let out a breath of air trying to get ahold of myself.

She isn't here.

I quickly step out of my clothes and take off my jewelry. Something felt off, maybe I'm just paranoid.

Looking into the mirror I sigh, I look more tired than usual.

My senses seemingly heighten-goosebumps decorating my skin. I flinch so hard my knee knocked into the cabinet in front of me.

For a second, it looked as though someone was standing behind me.

I rub my eyes in frustration and turn the shower to hot. I need to relax.

Stepping in, I sigh in relief. The hot water relaxing all the tense muscles in my body.

I grab the shampoo, softly rubbing it into my scalp with the pads of my fingers.

I groan as the soap drips off of my forehead and into my eyes.

Quickly, I run my face under the water to remove the soap. The air around me felt eerily cold although the steam around me said otherwise.

Suddenly, a cold strong grip catches hold of my arm. I let out a sharp gasp and hastily wipe the water from my eyes.
I open them completely , still blurry with water, trying to check my surroundings.

My body was shaking like a leaf, the air on the back of my neck standing up.
"River!" I yell out shakily.

The bathroom door quickly bursts open to River.

"Are you okay?!" She yelps, sounding breathless.

I shake my head no as the shock of what happen finally dissolves into tears.

"Baby..." River looks at me with sympathy filled eyes.

"Can you come in with me?" I ask, very shaken from the incident.

It all happened so quick. I don't know if I imagined it or not. As of now, I didn't care. I just don't want to be alone.

River steps back from the shower, tugging her shirt over her head.

I step more into the shower and continue to wash my air, allowing her room to come in.

-

Laying with my head in Rivers lap, I look up at her.

She smiles down at me and presses a kiss to my head. No matter what's going on, she always finds a way to be sweet to me.

I love her so much.

"I don't like talking about this, but what should we do Maeve? We worked so hard for what we have now." She explained, her voice slightly cracking by the end of her sentence.

I sigh softly, not knowing an answer.
She was right, we did work so hard for this.

It seems as though that's all going down the drain.

"Maybe we can contact the police? Get a restraining order?" I say, not understanding why we didn't do this sooner.

Though, Rivers eyebrows only creased further.

"We have no idea who we can trust. She has people everywhere Maeve. It's a fucking cult."

I look away from her. She was right.

I roll over and bury my face into her thighs letting out a loud groan.
River laughs softly and pats the back of my head.

"I wish this was all a bad dream." I whisper out, my lips making contact with her skin.

She lets out a puff of air, "As do I."

"Maybe we could go to-" I start off only to be cut off by Rivers hand covering my mouth.

I glare up at her, which didn't seem to amuse her. "She knows where we are, we don't know where she is."

It clicks. Rivers mother could be anywhere listening to us. Watching us.

Goosebumps litter my skin as I shove my face more into River.
This is so fucking scary.

River begins tracing shapes on my bare shoulder blade. I then realize, she wasn't drawing shapes, she was spelling something.

' A, N, O, T, H, E, R, C, O,U,N,T,R,Y'

At this point, that didn't seem like too bad of an idea.
