-River's POV-

A groan bubbles in my throat as my eyes shift to the small clock on our dresser.

4:30am.

It's been like this every night, even before we received the letter from my mother.

Maeve was asleep. Her left arm and leg draped over my body, head laying against my chest.

She always sleeps on my like this. Apparently, my heartbeat comforts her.

Looking down at her, a small smile finds its way onto my face. She makes everything better-even in the worst times.
She always looks so perfect. Even while asleep. Her face and lips, always so soft.

All I want is to protect her.

And that's what I'm going to do.

-

Maeve and I were sat at our island. The air between us was timid and weird? No. Tense.

We had no idea what was going on or what to do.

All I know is that we have to leave.

Maeve drops her head into her hands, a soft sigh leaving her lips.

"We should start packing." I say, my sudden request slightly startling her.

She looks up at me, then back down at her hands, seemingly trying to work something out in her head.

She opens her mouth to say something only to close it again.

"What's wrong?" I ask softly hoping to get an answer out of her.

"It's just.." she trailed off, her voice cracking.
"We worked so hard for this Rivs," her eyes were now glazed over. Tears threatening to spill.

"Come here." I muttered softly while holding my arms out to her.

She quickly obliged and sank into my arms. Soft sobs wracking her chest.

"It's all going to be okay, I promise." I soothe while rubbing her back.

"Cross your heart?" She asks in a hopeful tone.

I chuckle softly, "Cross my heart, hope to die."

-

We've decided that packing immediately was a must. We needed to be able to up and leave at any second.

Who knows when they'd show up.

Stress and worry was eating me from the inside out. I haven't said a word since breakfast.

Maeve seemed to quickly catch on that I was upset. She'd try to start conversations and lighten the mood multiple times, but in this case lightening the mood is close to impossible.

A pang of guilt struck me in the heart. I hate that I close up like this, I just hope she understands.

I grab one of the bigger suitcases and stuff it with anything I saw essential. Clothes, extra money, hygiene products, snacks.

Finishing packing the last of her essentials, Meave looks up at me.

"I think we should have a moment of peace before things get hectic."

I look at her confused on what she means. She smiles softly and walks over to the small radio on the nightstand.

A soft tune, a love song I'm guessing, began to play.

I stifle a laugh as Meave walks over to me, a jokingly flirty look on her face.

"Will you dance with me?" She giggles out to which I nod, wrapping my arms around her waist.

Our bodies were flushed together. Her arms around my waist as well, head resting near the top of my chest.

We swayed softly to the music, basking in each other's presence.

There isn't anyone in this world who compares to my Maeve. She makes me whole.

"This is nice." She says softly, her breath tickling the skin over my collarbones.

"It is." I hum in agreement.

She pauses for a second, "I wish it could be this calm and happy forever."

My heart clenches with sadness. I too wish we didn't have to live like this. Constant fear.

I decided not to say anything-not wanting to let my emotions get to me. Instead, I placed a small kiss to her forehead.

-

"We'll leave tomorrow, 6:00am."

Meave hums in understanding. I can tell she's upset that we have to leave. I am too, but it's the safest and only option.

It was around 10:30pm now. We were sat on the couch trying to enjoy a show. It's kinda hard when your crazy cult mother is after your girlfriend.

Meave groans and shifts herself onto my lap. "This cult shit is a serious cock block ya know." Her face showed nothing but seriousness.

I begin to laugh at her. The laugh came out as more of a snort.

She huffs out a puff of air and crosses her arms. "I don't see what's funny?" Her brows arch sassily.

"You darling, you're what's funny." I add with a chuckle. Maeve rolls her eyes at me.

"I want you." She whispers, a small frown on her face. She leans in closer, her lips gently grazing mine.
So she's serious.

My heart begins to beat rapidly. I slide my hands down to her thighs, caressing them softly.

I open my mouth to speak only to be cut off by her soft lips against my jaw.

I shudder and grip her thighs. "Maeve.."

"Shhh," she whispers. "Let me make you feel good."

(Aaaaaand that's all you get! i don't want to write smut in this BUT I will make another story thats just all the smut you were robbed from :))
