♡︎Maeve's POV♡︎We were now, once again, on the road. After waking up for a second time with River on top of me, we decided it would be best to get a move on.
River stopped at a gas station and bought a bag full of water bottles because apparently I was "dehydrated."
"River, don't you think that's a little...excessive?" I mumble the last word while looking into the bag.
She shrugs, "You need water, I don't want you dying on me."
I stifle a laugh and throw the bag into the back seat.
Letting out a quiet sigh, I rest my temple against the cool window. It was nice out today, the breeze a bit chilly. The last 48 hours of my life have been more than insane.
I can't wait to get a good nights sleep.
♡︎
"So uhhhh...what's the game plan?" I ask River while taking note of her eyes checking the rear view mirror every minute.
"Uhm, you see, I don't have one..BUT I do know that we have to get far from here."
I nod at her. I'm trying my hardest not to think about what's been happening-how I lost everyone I know.
I have to start my life from scratch.
I look over to River, scanning her features. Her eyes were focused on the road in-front of her; shoulders tense.
Her eyes looked a silvery grey, a strong contrast to her black hair, which was blowing around in the wind.
I smile softly and reach over, holding the side of her face in my hand while gently running my thumb over her bottom lip.
I watched as the prettiest smile graced her features, her dimple deepening.
She placed a gentle kiss to my thumb. The action causing my body to heat.
"I miss my guitar." She muttered randomly.
I snort out a laugh, "That's the one thing I'm glad got left behind."River opened her mouth faking a face of offense and landed a sharp smack to my thigh. "How rude!"
I giggled and rubbed my hand over the spot she smacked. "Kinky."
Rivers eyes widened in shock as I muffled my laughs with my hand.
"I knew it." She rolled her eyes, focusing back on the road.
I giggle then let out a yawn.
"Can we stop somewhere? I'm carsick."
River glances at me before looking back at the road.
"I think I have some money for a cheap motel."I nod then rest my head against the window.
♡︎
"Please stop! Don't do this please!"
Rivers mother laughs at me, her mouth stretching so wide it rips the crease of her lips.
Her teeth grow long-fang like.
Saliva dripping from her mouth
She chanted my name over and over.
"Maeve, Maeve, Maeve!"
"Maeve!"
I gasp, my eyes snapping open.River sat beside me shaking my thigh, her face showing concern.
I blink at her and look down at my hands which were shaking.
Phew, just a nightmare."We're here love."
I look up at the crusty half lit sign that read 'Motel!'
I send her a half smile and open my door, exiting the car.
We enter the motel, the smell of dust and stale basement fills my nostrils making me cringe.
"Hello," an old lady with a raspy voice greets us. Her eyelids caked in a blue-green eyeshadow.
We walk up to the reception desk. River nods at her in acknowledgment and clears her throat.
"We need a room. One bed."
The lady nods, "For how long will you be staying?"
I internally cringe at the raspiness in her voice-she's definitely a smoker.
"One night." River looks over to me to make sure that's okay.
I nod and look back at the lady.
"That'll be $200." I see River cringe at the price while taking a wrinkly stack of money from her back pocket-she obviously shoved it there in a rush.
The lady handed River the key after taking the money.
"Have a good night." I smile at her and she shoos me away while lighting a cigarette.
♡︎
We enter our room and my nose immediately crinkles in distaste.
"It smells like...old wallpaper."River laughs, "I mean hey, it could be worse."
I roll my eyes and begin stripping the sheets off the bed.
"Uhhh what are you doing," River eyed me weirdly.
"Checking for bugs." I add with a shiver. I hate bugs.
I see River laughing at me from the corner of my eye. I roll my eyes and flip her off.
After checking the mattress for bugs and stains, I finally let out a breath. I quickly fix the sheets and sigh in relief.
"Can I lay down now?" River whines at me, her posture slouched.
"Oh hush."
I plop onto the bed, opening my arms for River to lay with me.
She crawls onto the bed, straddling my waist instead of laying down."Ya know..it's been quite awhile since I kissed you." She whispers softly, her hair tickling my face as she leans closer.
"Yeah?" I mutter breathlessly trying to hide how flustered the closeness was making me.
Her lips curl into a smile as she nods her head.
She tilts her head slightly, connecting our lips in a soft kiss.I hum softly in approval, running my hands under her shirt, tracing my fingertips over the warm soft skin.
I feel River shiver in response, causing me to smile into the kiss.
She pulls back, observing my flushed state. "You're so pretty."
I smile at her, "Shut up."
She connects our lips once again, this time less soft. Her tongue slides across my bottom lip, wanting access.
I open my mouth slightly, a soft moan escaping me as our tongues meet.
Her teeth gently nip at my bottom lip, the soft sting igniting something in the pit of my stomach.
My hands slide down to her thighs, giving them a soft squeeze, then run up again, sliding under her shirt.
I feel her giggle against my lips, pulling the t-shirt from her body.
She leans back down to connect our lips only to be startled by sudden pounding on the door.
"Oh I forgot to mention, no sex in the bed!" The old woman from earlier rasped.
Me and River look at each other in shock before laughing uncontrollably.
