Jamie
All the boys and parents came outside watching as I asked to use a lightsaber from a little boy turning it on and instructing the others to follow suit. The sky was dark and the lightsabers were burning bright in the field full of children and their parents. Watching all the kids looking at their ligthtsabers made me smile. "Now, grab a friend and start fighting like they are swords and you're in battle." They all did as they were told and in an instant they were in the middle of a war. Blues, reds, greens, yellows, whites, and purples lite up clashing and flashing like never before. The little girls laughed as the boys battled together.
I was so happy to see them all having so much fun together like every child should. Connor walked up beside me with a huge smile on his face just like mine and the children. "They look like they're having so much fun. I've never seen my pack look so at ease. It's great to put Josh's problems behind us and showing the pack that we are still strong without him here anymore." He said with a little pep in his voice. "I just want them to be happy and care free. Children should have joy and love in their live, not sadness and hate." I told him with a thoughtful look on my face. "I think that after the pack goes home we should talk. I have some things we really need to talk about." He said before walking off to talk to Luke.
"So what was that all about?" Olivia asked walking up and standing beside me. "He wants to talk about something later. No, he didn't tell me what it was. You know damn well that if he told me you would be the first to know about it." I told her with a little nudge of my elbow. After a while the pack started to leave with their kids one by one. Some of the girls had to be carried away because they had fallen asleep and the boys were slowly dragged away from their battle partners. I took my leave and walked back to Connor's house alone to wait for him there.
Some time had passed and he dragged himself into the house looking as tired as ever. I was quick to go grab him a beer and bring it to him. He chugged the beer with little droplets trickling down his beard but never dropping onto his shirt. "What did you need to talk about?" I asked as we both sat down on the couch together. He was so tired but I knew he would want to talk no matter how tired he was. He sucked in a breath of air and turned to me running a hand through his hair. "I know this is a bad time to talk about this but it needs to be said. We are coming up on the mating ritual date and you know we are going to have to participate in it. If we are not mates then things will need to happen, you will go live with your mate and mine will come to live with me. As much as I don't want you to leave you'll have to because I don't want to give my mate the wrong impression." He said then cleared his throat with a little upset look on his face.
"Connor, I know that one day you'll find your mate and I'll move on to my own. You won't need me anymore and that's okay. I want you to know that it's okay. We will always be friends but I know for sure your mate comes first no matter what. That's in the book you ask me to read and learn from. I hate that it's that way but it is what it is and I'll respect it." I told him with a little sadness in my voice. "Jamie, we are more than just friends, you are my best friend no matter who I mate with. I will always need you in my life because I know my mate will only tell me what I want to hear when we first mate." He said with a little conviction in him.
I was a little sad thinking about him leaving me but I knew it would come sooner or later. I leaned over resting my forehead on his, closing my eyes and breathing in his smell. "You will forever be in my life, as my friend, my Alpha, and the person that was there for me when I had no one left. You are here now and you will be here when we are mated to others." I told him before leaning down and kissing his soft lips with longing. After a few minutes he pulled away and looked up at me. "I don't want to tell you this but I need to. I love you, more than a friend should." I whispered feeling like I was making such a big mistake.
His milky white eyes looked into mine and I was so scared to hear what he was going to say next. He looked like he was in a fight on the inside, trying to decide what to say to me. My nerves were completely on edge and I was starting to panic from the silence between us. Seconds passed to minutes and then I knew I needed to get the hell away from Connor. "I'm sorry I shouldn't have said that. I'm going to go to bed, goodnight Connor." I spoke jumping into action to leave the room before I embarrassed myself any further.
I was quick to lock my door and turn on my music so if he came knocking I wouldn't hear it. Music blasted from my speakers as I grabbed my phone texting Olivia to tell her everything that happened tonight. I begged her to come over and she was down for it. After a little while I had gotten a text from her telling me that she was here to spend the night with me. I made a run for the front door, dragging her into the house and up the stairs to my room and locking us inside. Tears streamed down my cheeks as soon as Olivia opened her arms to me.
