I was dodging Connor like he was the black plague. We haven't talked since the night I had told him that I loved him. He was the same way with me as well, holding up in his room and never coming out unless he had business or waiting til I was in my room to come out of his own. Olivia was the only person I was talking to at the moment but it was sad really. Thinking about how I could lose my best friend because I was in love with him.

Today I was able to leave Connor's house without worrying if Connor would see me because he was gone. What I mean is, he is gone to war with another pack across the country. Yes I was scared that he wouldn't make it back alive but I told him how I felt and that is the only thing I could do. I had spoken my peace and I was okay with him not telling me that he loved me before he left. I sat in Connor's living room waiting on Olivia to come over when there was a knock on the door. Getting up I swung the door open and there stood Olivia with Luke behind her.

"We need to talk now!" Luke all but yelled at me before pushing into the room and dragging me with him while Olivia followed behind. "Why the hell would you bring him here?" I mouthed looking at Olivia. "You need to hear everything that he says and then you need to make your decision." She said making me sit down between Luke and herself. "Luke, if this is something stupid like war talk I don't want to hear it." I said but he was quick to shut me down. "While Connor isn't here you need to listen to me. Whatever you said to Connor has him acting so different. He can't focus, he won't talk about anything other than you, and he won't even try to help plan the mating ritual. So you need to tell me what the hell you said to him and you need to spill it right now." Luke demanded with a harsh tone to his voice.

I looked at Olivia and she nodded to me. Taking a few breaths I turned back to Luke ready to spill my guts to him. "I told him that I loved him. He just stared at me like I was crazy. I knew he didn't love me but I needed to tell him and get it off my chest. After a while of just sitting there waiting for him to say something I realized he wasn't going to say it back so I locked myself in my room and haven't said anything to him since." It felt so good to spill my guts to Luke. He looked at me with sadness in his eyes and then all of a sudden he was hugging me.

After a aecond or two he pulled away to look at me. "I'm just gonna tell you this now before Connor comes back from the war. He is madly in love with you. He won't tell you because he knows that the mating ritual is happening soon and if you are not his mate he will feel like he lead you on. He is in love with you but he was never going to tell you because he didn't know if you felt the same way and as soon as you told him you did he went into a fight or flight mode. I wish you wouldn't have locked yourself in that room, he might have actually told you." Luke told me like it was the saddest thing in the world.

"Look I know I shouldn't say this to you but Connor is coming home tonight. You need to do whatever you need to, to get him back to normal. If he continues going down the route he's going, someone will realize he is weak and will take him down. I won't sit here and watch my Alpha and close friend be taken down by someone with no heart to understand the circumstances and take advantage of his sadness." Luke said before standing up and walking to the door leaving Olivia and I alone to talk. My mind was spinning like crazy and I had no clue what I was going to do about it.

Olivia and I sat watching a tv show until a horn was sounded. I knew that horn was to let everyone know that the pack was home and the war was won. "He's home." Olivia whispered to me and my body went ridged. "I guess it's time to make my move." I said as Olivia went to leave the house. "JJ, don't let the fear of a little mating ritual stop you from having what you can right now. If you want him go get him, get what you can now while you still can. Don't back down just because of a mate you don't know if he has or not." She said before walking out the door leaving me to pace back and forth in the living room.

I decided to make dinner for the both of us and wait for him to get here. The stove made the house feel like a spa from all the roaring heat that poured out of it. As soon as dinner was made I plated the food and grabbed his favorite beer placing everything in the living room when the door opened and Connor walked in. He looked so tired and worn down from the war and I knew for sure that he was going to love the food I had made him. "Connor come sit down, I made you food." I said as he was looking at me with a little smile on his face. "Your talking to me now?" He questioned more like a statement. "Yes, you know your my best friend. I won't stop being your friend just because of a mating ritual or a future mate." I told him walking over and grabbing his hand slowly dragging him to the couch to eat the food I worked so hard to make for him.
