Thirty Years Ago

Baguio City, Philippines

The sun was waving goodbye from the horizons as the sky is turning reddish to black. Nagsimula ng umilaw ang bawat tahanan kaya ramdam na ang malamig na hangin na dulot ng tahimik na gabi. Nakaupo si Vanida Waan o mas kilala bilang Sweet (her second name Waan means sweet in Thai) ng kanilang mga kapitbahay, sa terasa ng kanilang munting tahanan. "Love, what are you doing?" Lumapit si Edward sa kanyang maybahay bitbit ang dalawang baso ng gatas.

"Hi love, I'm reading some international business news," sagot nito habang ang isang kamay ay nakahawak sa isang dyaryo at ang isang kamay ay hinihimas-himas ang walong buwan niyang tiyan.

Ipinakita ni Sweet ang dyaryo na binabasa kung saan nakasulat ang isang artikulo tungkol sa nag-iisang anak at tagapagmana ng AM Business Empire na may kalakip na litrato ng bata.

"Oh, what a handsome young boy! What do you think, love?"

Tumango-tango naman si Edward sa sinabi ng asawa habang binabasa rin ang artikulo:

"Mr. Arthit Mahayotaruk, the CEO and Founder of the AM Business Empire, together with his wife, publicly announced their one-year-old firstborn son as the sole heir of the group. They held a banquet to formally introduce their son Thiti "Bank" Mahayotaruk to the public which was attended by the royal family, conglomerates, businessmen, and public figures."

"Ev! That should be our daughter's nickname," Sweet suddenly announced kaya napalingon si Edward sa kanya with a confused look on his face. "E from your name and V from my name, also it sounds like Eve, a time of the day when the sun and moon are visible at the same time at one place, just like right now. These two will be the sun and moon for each other's lives as they shine separately at their own places, but once they meet... both of them will be beautiful scenery." Paliwanag nito habang nakatanaw na sa langit – sunset is a magnificent panorama.

"You are born for each other, a destiny already written in heaven. In the far future, your red string of fate will lead you to each other in that country. Your name, Ev, will bring you to him and when that moment comes, always choose him, my daughter."

Thirty-five years later (The present time)

Bangkok, Thailand

"Hmm..." ungol ni Ev, "mama... hmm...mama!" Bigla siyang nagising at napabangon. Nahapo niya ang kanyang dibdib dahil sa lakas ng tibok ng kanyang puso, "oh, it was just a dream. But a vivid dream."

First time niyang mapanaginipan ang mama niya sa buong buhay niya. The dream was so clear and realistic that she wondered if it was real or not.

"Hey, babe, are you okay?" Nagising narin si Bank dahil sa nangyari kaya't binuksan niya ang side lamps ng higaan nila, "bad dreams?"

Hindi umimik si Ev but instead, she tried to remember the scenes in her dream. Her mom was talking with her dad with a pregnant belly which seemed to be her. Her mom said something to her papa,

"E from your name and V from my name, also it sounds like Eve, a time of the day when the sun and moon are visible at the same time at one place, just like right now. These two will be the sun and moon for each other's lives as they shine separately at their own places, but once they meet... both of them will be beautiful scenery."

And after uttering those words ay she mumbled words that were intended for her daughter, a message she wanted her daughter to know,

"You are born for each other, a destiny already written in heaven. In the far future, your red string of fate will lead you to each other in that country. Your name, Ev, will bring you to him and when that moment comes, always choose him, my daughter."

"Ev?" Pukaw ni Bank sa kanya nang mapansin siya nitong nakatulala parin.
"I dreamt of my mother and she told me something many years ago," she started explaining.

"Wait, let me get you a glass of water." Lumabas si Bank ng kwarto nila at di rin nagtagal ay bumalik ito na may dala-dala ng baso ng tubig.

"What did Mama say to you?"

"You are born for each other, a destiny already written in heaven. In the far future, your red string of fate will lead you to each other in that country. Your name, Ev, will bring you to him and when that moment comes, always choose him, my daughter." Inulit ni Ev ang mga salita ng mama niya sa panaginip niya.

He pulled his wife to him and gave her a hug, "Mama must have already known that you and I would meet at some point in our lives, and it was inevitable. Our meeting ten years ago was never a coincidence..."

Kumalas si Ev at tumingala upang titigan ang kanyang asawa, "it was fated to happen."

He moved closer to her and offered her a kiss. She responded to the kiss her husband gave her.

Naghiwalay ang mga labi ng dalawa and Bank stared at his wife – a stare na may ibig sabihin at saka ito ngumiti ng nakakaloko, "Babe... isn't the mood right now so suitable to make the next heir of AM Business Empire?"
