It hurts, but it's okay... I'm used to it.

I had instructed Ble to activate the self-defence mechanism around the perimeter of the house. I know that it sounds crazy, but my grandmother had always told me to stay protected, that sometimes, not even at home we were going to be safe.

I triple-locked the door to the secret room before turning to face everyone inside of it. A shiver ran through my body when my eyes locked with Kais. I had a vague idea of what a mate is, but I was still unsure about everything.

"What happened?" Andrew questioned as he approached me. "Did he try anything?" I shook my head and licked my lips. "Come on, Astra! What happened?"

"He," I rubbed my eye. "He came to tell me that we had trespassed, and I argued that we are in the middle of an important city, we are always being trespassed," I shrugged. "But he claimed that this is a city of Hunters and that werewolves trespassed,"

"How?" Nathaniel barked out. "We came through the secret tunnel that you said we should use!" He growled and stepped closer, only to cause both Andrew and Kais to growl back.

"Knock it off," I argued. "I have no clue, but he has eyes absolutely everywhere, I wouldn't be surprised if he figured out about the tunnel," I slid myself down to the floor. "We need to leave, Ble can hold them off for a while, but he is going to figure a way to get inside,"

"We can use the tunnel," Andrew spoke. "And then we can figure out a plan once we are safe," I nodded. "You just have to make sure that there is nothing left here,"

Kais frowned. "What is he talking about?"

"Destroying the house," I sighed. "Andrew, let's pack the bags with the important things my giagiá had kept hidden for years,"

"Are you insane!" Nathaniel shouted. "We leave with nothing! If we lose time we might lose our lives!"

"LEAVE!" I barked and the room trembled. "If you are so scared leave, but I won't lose the only thing that I have to remember my family," I sneered. "Not everyone is lucky to live with them," I stood up closer to him. "May I remind you that I was shipped from my country to come here to be 'safe' and yet I am on the run once again,"

"Both of you calm down," Kais spoke as he placed a hand on my shoulder, making me gasp due to the sparkles. "We are taking what you want, but we need to hurry," He took in a deep breath, it felt like he was inhaling my scent. "We are faster because we can turn into wolves, can you?"

I licked my lips and shook my head. "I don't," I stepped away from him. "Up until yesterday I thought I was human," I added rolling my eyes. "Come on, let's hurry up, I'll set Ble to destroy the house and make that the tunnel is hidden,"

"May I have an opinion," Ble's voice spoke and we all turned to the ceiling. "There is an alternate tunnel that will take you directly towards the Pack House in the next town, where Kais Scala currently resides,"

"What?" I spat. "How do you know about this Ble! And why hadn't you said a thing?"

"Your grandmother," Ble started. "When she first created me, told me to keep several things until the time was right," I rolled my eyes. "Given that you are going to destroy this house, I have assumed it is the right time,"

"Ya think?" I added with a sigh. "I would assume that you have everything ready for the escape?"

"That is a correct assumption," Ble replied. "Also, you have exactly fifteen minutes before the Mayor and his hunters manage to break the door,"

"Let's go," I spoke.

I don't think that I have ever felt so lost in my entire life, not even when I lost both my mamá and giagiá, not even when I discovered that my best friend is a werewolf, not when I found out that I am one too. This is a different type of lost, watching the place where I grew up burn into flames isn't something easy...

I took in a deep breath and stared at the forest around the packhouse. We had managed to get to the packhouse fast and without any complications. I am also sure that there is another story behind that tunnel, given that no one and I mean absolutely no one batted an eye when we appeared through it.

Kais had been kind enough to assign us a room, even when I knew that he wanted to be with me, he decided to give me a room next to his, so that I could gather my thoughts, and I need that.

All the answers laid on the boxes that contained everything from the life that I was supposed to have in Greece. I could open the first book and everything would fall into place, but I just couldn't...

"Astra," Andrew called from outside the room. "Hey, how are you doing?"

I gave him a small smile. "How do you think?" I sighed. "How are you? I don't want to think about anything right now,"

"Umm hanging in there I guess," Andrew chuckled. "I overheard Nathaniel arguing with Kais about what they should do with us, and if you were to be trusted," I rolled my eyes. Of course, he was going to have doubts about me. "Kais got pissed at the insinuation that you are part of the hunters, and almost hurt Andrew, but someone else butted in, and said that he wanted to meet us," I raised an eyebrow. "Something about understanding what the fuss was about,"

"Huh," I chuckled. "Well, let's see what happens. But I think that we should learn a bit more about the werewolf world, given that at least I know close to nothing,"

Before Andrew could reply, Kais appeared in the room, a serious look on his face. I raised an eyebrow as he assessed the room. "I need you two to come with me," Neither of us made a move. "I want you to meet my Gamma, as you already know Nathaniel, the Beta,"

I licked my lips. "What for? It's not like I am going to stay here," Before I could even explain myself, Kais was already holding me and growling. What the hell?

"You. Are. Not. Leaving. Me," Kais growled softly in my ear. "I know that you don't understand how mates or how the werewolf world functions, but you are my mate, and I am never leaving your side, nor will I let you be in any harm ever again,"

I gave a small nod. "We'll see about that," I whispered and his hold got stronger. "Let's not keep waiting, I have some matters to attend to after this meeting or whatever,"

"Let's go Kais," Andrew spoke. "She is going to kick your ass if you don't let her be," He added. "Believe me," He added and I couldn't help but laugh.

Kais inhaled my scent before letting me go. I felt somehow bad like I was doing something wrong, but Andrew was right, I need my space, and most definitely, I need to learn how all of this works.

Kais motioned us to follow him, and I turned to look at Andrew before following into step behind Kais. For the first time in a while, I felt so unsure of everything that was going to happen...
