Chapter 3

I wake up to my phone going crazy. I sit up and answer it.

"Hello?" I say.

"Hey Sophia, what are you doing today?" Rafe asks.

"I'm not sure, honestly I just woke up," I say with a small laugh.

"Oh, well I was, um, wondering if you wanted to come over and swim. I know how much you liked swimming."

"I'd love too."

"Cool, Cool. Meet me at my house around noon?"

"Yea that works, see you then." I say.

"Alright, see you then." he says, ending the call. Rafe and I had a thing last summer. We're still friends but I think we both wanna be more at times. I look at the time 11:02.

"Who was that?" JJ asks as he walks into my room.

"Rafe," I say, noticing JJ tense up. "He asked me to come over and hang out."

"So are you going?" He asks, seeming upset and mad at the same time.

"Yea, I don't have anything else planned." I say with a small smile. He gets up without saying anything and walks out of my room. That was weird I think to myself. I get up and go to the kitchen. I grab a bowl and pour some cherios in it. I go to look in the fridge for milk.

"Seriously, boys! You drank all the milk and didn't go buy any." I yell. JJ walks into the kitchen with a bowl of what was cereal.

"Sorry," He mumbles, throwing his bowl into the sink.

"What's your problem?" I ask.

"Oh nothing, just the fact that you're going to hang out with your ex." He says walking out of the kitchen.

"Huh, why are you so mad about that? I'm going to swim and hang out. Not fuck him." I say getting a little annoyed.

"Yea sure, have fun with the kook prince." He slams the front door and I hear his bike start a few seconds later he drives off. I go into my room and but on a lavender colored bikini and an oversized t-shirt.I look in John B's room to see if he was here but he wasn't. I write a note and put it on the fridge: Going to hang out with Rafe, be home later.

I walk out onto the front porch and grab my skateboard. I put my headphones in and start skating to Tannyhill. When I arrive Rafe is outside working on his dirtbike.

"Hey," I say walking up behind him.

"Hey, gorgeous," he says standing up. He gives me a hug.

"How ya been?" I ask.

"Good, good. What about you?"

"Really good actually, kinda annoyed at the moment but it's summer so lifes great," I say with a laugh.

"Nice, lets go to the pool?" He asks.

"Race you there," I say, running over to the fence on the side of the house. I get it open and continue running. Once I'm closer to the pool, I take off my t-shirt and continue running doing a flip into the pool. Rafe jumps in right after me.

"Haha I win," I say sticking my tongue out at him.

"Whatever," He replies splashing water at me. "So, you and that pogue, whats his name."

"JJ?"

"Yea, him. What's up with you guys, are you like a thing or?"

"Me and JJ?" I question laughing. " Nah, were just friends."

"Oh cool."

"Why?"

"I don't know I was just wondering I guess," He says. "You guys just seem so flirty and stuff."

"Yea, um it's just to make John B mad you know."

"Makes since," He says with a laugh.

"Yea, whats going on with you, got a girl your crushing on?"

"Me? No. I'm staying single, just trying to live life a little." He says with a smile.

"Thats good," I respond. We continue to swim and have small talk before my phone rings. I look at the caller id. It's JJ. I get out of the pool and dry my hands off before grabbing my phone.

"I gotta take this hold on," I say walking away a bit before answering.

"Hey, JJ" I say.

"Sophia," He says sounding like hes crying.

"JJ, whats wrong, are you okay."

"I- Can you just come back to the chateau, I need you."

"Yea, yea, I'm coming. Be there soon." I say ending the call.

"Rafe, I gotta go theres something going on at the chateau," I say. "I'm sorry."

"Oh, it's fine. Thanks for hanging out for a few." He says.

"Yea of course. We need to do it again sometime." I say walking toward the front of the house, him following not so far behind.

"Yea, I'll talk to you later Sophia."

"Bye, Rafe." I put on my t-shirt and skate away.
