Forever and Always | JJ Maybank

Chapter 8

Sophias pov

I wake up and see a bunch of bright lights. My vision is blurred but I can tell someone is sitting next to me. I hear the door open and see 3 blurred bodys walk in. 

“Oh, Sophia,” I hear Sarah say, crying.

“She just opened her eyes, but I don’t know if she is awake or if she can see and hear us,” JJ says. I feel a pair of arms wrap around me. It was John B, I hear him crying in my ear.

“I love you so much, sis. Please don’t leave me. You're all I have.” He says.

“The nurse said you guys wanted to be filled in on what happened?” The doctor asks.

“Yes, please,” JJ says.

“All that we know is, she was hit by a white pickup truck. It was an intoxicated male driving. He hit her going around 75mph causing her to break her arm and leg.” The doctor says.

“Do you know who the man was driving?” JJ asks.

“Uh, Luke Maybank,” The doctor says looking at his clipboard.

“I’m gonna fucking kill him!” JJ yells storming out of the room.

“JJ! Come back here!” John B yells running after him. I hear the doctor leave the room. After a few minutes my eyes begin to clear up and I see Sarah sitting on the end of the bed crying. I try to sit up but it feels like there's an elephant on my chest. I start freaking out because I can't move. Something to the right of me starts beating super fast. I see Sarah stand up and run to the door opening it.

"I need a doctor in here fast! Her heart monitor is going crazy!” Sarah yells, sounding freaked out.

It starts getting harder to breathe and my vision is coming and going. It feels like the world is stopping. I hear a bunch of loud footsteps coming in. Someone puts something on my mouth.

"Breathe in your mouth and out your nose," An unfamiliar voice says. I do what she tells me a couple of times. My vision slowly comes back and I feel like I can breathe again. I try to sit up and it works.

"Oh my god! You're okay," Sarah says, wrapping me up in a tight hug. "I love you so much."

"I love you too," I say. "Where's JJ?" I knew I heard him here. He told me how much he loved me and that he was sorry. Was I hallucinating?

"Um, he's not here right now," She says. JJ wasn't here, he didn't say any of that. Was my mind telling me what I wanted to hear? 

"Okay and John B?" I ask.

"He's on his way," She says with a smile. She looks down at her phone and types something. The door slams open and John B comes running in.

"Sophia! Thank god you're okay," He says.

"I'm okay!" I say with a smile. He gives me a big hug.

"Sarah," I say.

"Yes."

"Could I talk to John B alone for a minute?" 

"Of course!" She says, walking toward the door.

"Thank you," I say as she walks out, closing the door behind her. " I heard everything."

He stays quiet. I'm guessing he doesn't know how to respond.

"I love you so much John B, you're the best brother in the entire world. I don't know what I would do without you. You're always constantly helping me with anything I need, from mom leaving all the way down to the little things like helping me learn how to braid my hair when we were 6. You mean so much to me. There's no one that could replace you." I say. His eyes are wet with tears. He walks over and gives me a hug.

"I was so scared. I thought I was gonna lose you." He says, crying.

"It's okay," I say. "I'm okay."

We hug for a few more minutes before he pulls away and sits in one of the chairs by the bed. He pulls his phone out and types something. I hear the Iphone facetime ring.

"Who are you calling?" I ask. He hands the phone to me. I look at the caller Id. It's Kie. I also look at the time 1:45 am. I was out for a while.

"She's not gonna answer, John B. Do you not know what time it is?" I say. It continues ringing and like I said, she didn't answer.

"I know, I just called to tell her you were awake and okay, well kinda okay," He says.

"Did you tell her I was in the hospital?" I ask.

"Yea," He says. We sit in silence for what seems like forever before the door opens causing me to jump. Sarah and the doctor walk in. Sarah walks over to the right side of the bed where John B is at and the doctor walks over to the left side.

"She is free to go at 10 am," The doctor says, unhooking wires from me. After 3 minutes of him unhooking everything from me he leaves. 

"You guys should go home and get some rest," I say to Sarah and John B.

"Are you sure?" John B asks.

"Yea, I'm gonna do the same. Just don't forget to come get me," I say with a little laugh.

"Okay, I won't let him forget," Sarah says, laughing.

"Love you sis," John B says walking toward the door.

"Love you bird." 

They walk out of the room, closing the door behind them. I fall asleep really fast.
