Chapter Thirteen

KAI'S POV

"Excuse me, sir? Are you okay?"

My eyes fluttered open at the sound of a woman's voice, checking if I was still alive. Confusion overcame me for a few seconds, but then last night's events came crashing down on me like a nightmare I wish never happened. My eyes scanned my surroundings, searching for the redhead I'd grown fond of, but she was nowhere to be found. The anger inside me grew at the thought of someone laying a finger on her; I stood up and ignored the lady who tried to help me. I didn't have time to satisfy her with my wellbeing, aggravating me with all of her stupid questions.

"You should go to a hospital, dear! I can take you."

I let out a huff before turning to her, "I'm a bad person, and you're REALLY pissing me off, so if I were you?" I moved closer to her before proceeding, "I would run." My lips arched into a grin as fear sparked into her eyes. She turns around and sprints away.

That was a dick thing to say but, I'm a dick. What's new?

Once I made my way back to Portland's Coffeehouse, I hoped to see an empty parking slot from where Orange parked her car. Hoping she might have left me on the ground and went home. I'd rather want that than face the fact that she could be in danger. My eyes scanned the parking lot, seeing her car still parked at the same spot. My jaw clenched as I approached her car, bending down and picking inside. For some reason, I thought that she could be in there sleeping, but no.

Orange is gone, and it's my fault.

I parked my car in the driveway of my house, making my way up the steps and swinging the front door open. I watched as my family sat in the living room with the Finches. Everyone's eyes widened when they saw me. Jo stood up and ran over to me, giving me a tight hug before sobbing into my chest.

"I couldn't find you guys! You were cloaked when I tried using a locator spell!" She pulls away, wiping her tears that had escaped from her eyes, "Where's Autumn?" My sister said softly, peeking behind me, and I stayed silent.

Jo's eyes widened once she realized it was just me, "K-kai?"

My eyes never broke away from my sister, giving her a look of defeat. That's when it hit her, "Oh my god." She covers her mouth and turns to face Oranges family and my father.

Joshua moves closer to me, "What happened?" He tried to keep his cool in front of the Finches, but I knew he would have swung at me if they weren't here.

"We were ambushed by a witch who knocked us out, and when I woke up? She was gone." I state with anger washing over me that I couldn't help her.

I was useless yet again.
