AUTUMN'S POV

Dean parked his car a few blocks from Joel's house, seeing that his driveway was filled with cars all along the front. I stepped out of the car and slammed the door shut, making my brother shoot me a dirty look for my roughness, but I ignored the look on his face and shoved my hands into my jean jacket. The wind blew aggressively on this Portland night like it always did, allowing the cool weather to brush against my bare skin, reminding me that it was still winter.

I wasn't sure going to this party was the greatest idea, not after Kai's mini-breakdown. It's honestly foolish of me to think he would actually come to this after what he went through, but one can only hope- right?

Letting out a dramatic sigh, I followed the sound of loud music. My brother seemed excited about this house party; at least one of us was happy...- but I would only be happy once I saw Kai. There's so much I want to tell him.

Walking up the driveway, I saw people sitting outside Joel's porch. They were drinking and smoking, while some were already passed out in the front yard.

Yikes, what did I sign up for?

"Autumn!" I heard the sound of Joel's voice as I walked through the front door. Turning to look at him, he sprints over to me and hands Dean his drink before wrapping his arms around my body and picking me up, spinning me around as I giggle from his affectionate behavior. Once he sets me down, he snatches his drink from my brother. "Hello, prince." He joked while placing the glass against his lips.

"Hi." Dean said, a bit annoyed with Joel's nickname.

Joel began to speak, but I could barely hear him due to the music invading my eardrums. "What?!" I yelled over to Joel, who sighed profoundly and leaned closer. "Wheres your other half!?" He pulls away just a bit to give me his boyish smile.

"Don't know, he should be on his way with Jo, but it's Kai...he's difficult. " I say with sadness in my tone.

Joel being the good friend that he was, noticed and placed an arm around my neck, pulling me away from the loudness and into what looked like an office.

Leaving poor Dean alone, but he can manage. I just hope he keeps his mouth shut.

Joel closed the door behind him, making the music sound like a muffle. I look around the unfamiliar office; it must've been Mr. River's office before he passed. "So tell good old me what happened." Joel said in a silly yet serious tone as he made his way over to the desk that sat in the middle of the room and leaned on it while I stood in front of him like a deer in headlights.

Me and Joel aren't as close, so this is new to me, but I know I can trust him. When it comes to anything Parker, he always seems to have the answers for anything and everything.
