—You felt warm, but you felt like you weren't in your bed so you jolted up and opened your eyes quickly. "woah there! It's alright." a pretty girl calmed you down. "huh?..what?" you were quite scared and confused.
the girl furrowed her eyesbrows in confusion at your lack of facial expression. your voice sounded so confused yet your face was stoic.
"where am i? who are you?" you asked dead serious, your voice sounded threatening. "oh..um! you're at a place called the butterfly mansion. your family was killed by a demon that set your house on fire. yet the demon was quite dumb so it set its self on fire." her confused expression was soon replaced by a gentle warm smile.
"what about my sister?.." you questioned. "you have a sister?" she tilted her head ever so slightly. "um..yeah, didn't you find her?..I thought I saw her before I passed out..she's one of the only things I remember.."
"well..i'm not the one that found you, or put out the fire..someone else did. he found everyone's body, including you." she explained.
"can I meet him?" you thought she was nice and all but you had no clue what was going on and felt quite irritated. "he didn't really..uh..want to talk to you. he doesn't like to meet the people he saves."
you narrowed your eyes at her, making her avert her lavender colored eyes. she still had a very tiny smile on her face which you couldn't help but find strange.
it all the suddenly became awkward so you decided to fix the awkwardness since it wasn't getting you anywhere. "maybe i was hallucinating. what now?"
the older girl with the long hair found your question weird. you seemed so calm, yet frightened. she figured if you were a demon slayer you'd be more like muichiro, but your temper would be a little higher like sanemi.
"become a demon slayer." she expected you to ask what the hell was a demon slayer but instead you quickly replied without thought.
"okay." you blinked at her as her expression went from a gentle closed eye smile to a silent gasp. "me and my sister can help train you."
you nodded. "as soon as I heal I want to find the guy that saved me. so, tell me his age and how he looks. I need to ask about my sister."
"well..okay.." she sighed.

you jumped out of bed as soon as you saw shinobu walk into the door way. "i'm healed! i'm gonna go find that guy now."
"you mean tomioka?" she rolled her eyes at his name. "yep, wanna help?" you asked her excitedly while gathering a pair of good clothes in your arms.
you had only known shinobu and kanae for about a week or two but had already became good friends with them.
— i view people differently now —
"hey, do you have a cool haori I can use?" you scoffed at the plain white one. "i can't get you a customized one until you officially join the demon slayer corps, but i have an extra like the one i'm wearing." she quickly ran to the room beside yours and grabbed a haori faster then ever. she tossed it to you. "thanks, I hope I can be as fast as you when i'm done training."
she nodded. you noticed she'd act different around others then how she acted around you and kanae. you and shinobu were 14 years of age. kanae was 17 and kanao is 5 years younger then you making her 9.
you weren't here when she was adopted, which was when she was 6. you had barely talked to her, just a few times and she never really replied. shinobu said it's because she flips a coin and was raised differently..or something like that.
which shinobu thought the same of you. shinobu and kanae asked you about your past, but you didn't have a reply. you just said you forgot which was slightly untrue.
you'd always wear a blank expression but randomly it would change. you'd be energetic sometimes but then another minute you would act bored.
kanae thought it was because your past but no one officially knew because you kept it to yourself.
even you didn't know why you acted that way because you never thought about it. you just felt like it? maybe it's because it made you more interesting. it seemed to scare and interest others so.
you slipped on the haori that looked like kanae's. you then walked up to shinobu & hugged her.
"thank you..also, please don't tell kanae i'm going out yet."
shinobu hesitantly nodded. "she'll figure it out soon so hurry. goodluck y/n." she averted her gaze feeling awkward, she wasn't the best with affection. she'd probably get better at it one day.
you pulled back from the hug and ran out of the door way. you might get lost in the mansion, but you had gone to the bathroom and met other people before. you just hadn't left it and went outside. you found your way to the door and didn't avoid opening it.
there it was, it wasn't snowy anymore. considering the last time you were outside was traumatizing, but it was also the end of winter.
it was chilly but not snowing. the wind hit your skin and you sighed in relief then quickly went back to the task you were trying to focus on before getting caught.
kanae had told you the guy wore a strange patterned haori. It was mismatched, a maroon color and a yellow, green and goldish pattern on the other side. he had black long hair tied to the back of his head and his personality could be annoying sometimes.
you had not a single clue on how you were gonna find him. it's not like you were gonna just search the entire earth, you told shinobu to use her crow to find his crow and report where he was close to.
she said he was near mount yari which was surprisingly close to the mansion. it may take a hour but you didn't care.

you groaned as you finally reached the mountain you were trying to get to. you saw a town close by in the distance, and you also heard screams. you began to run, realizing he was probably in the town.
as soon as you reached the town the screaming stopped. you walked slower now, until you saw a guy. all you saw was his pointy black hair. you got excited, you had been waiting to ask him a question for weeks.
"hey, you! uhh..gi—...?? gakuto?!" you forgot..
he turned his full body around, he was decently tall for being 14.
"who are you?" He coldly asked and you rolled your eyes at his voice.
"wow, you don't remember me? you saved me..i think.." He blinked awkwardly
"you put out the fire on the mountain.." he did recognize your haori, and then it clicked. He remembered.
"did you..see my sister on the mountain?" you walked closer to him. "no."
"is that it?" he narrowed his eyes at you. you and his expressions were the same. both blank.
suddenly it changed. you furrowed your eyebrows. "what's your problem?" you snapped at him. you came all the way here, and it better had not been for nothing. you felt very frustrated seeing him not even try to help you.
"with what?"
"with you and your ugly haori." his eyes widened. "my haori isn't ugly." your face turned into a mean smile when you realized that maddened him.
he quickly turned around and started walking angrily. "now I see why Shinobu hates you." you sighed.
all you saw in him was a loser that made you walk this far for nothing. he didn't even try to help you out.
