Finnlay's POV

(M.A. Warning)

Once I left her apartment I knew things shifted. I took a scenic route on my way home to think about everything. I mean honestly? I am heading down to start my season. I've talked to Eduardo and how he ended up with his wife back in the day. I even reached out to Alec and Brody about being with someone during the season. They all had serious questions to ask me-- more so to interrogate me about Bree.

They only know her name as of right now.

Unlike Mateo... he knows pretty much how I've been feeling. Mateo and I text eachother daily, and usually go on a call with eachother and chat. It's a good bromance balance. I called him up on my way home from Bree's the other night and he helped me talk through a lot of things.

The season is long. The hours and games and traveling are tough on our relationships. If I were to start something with Bree, would I be able to nurture the relationship as much as we both need?

I set up the lunch because the bottom line is I don't want her to be unsure of me. I want to be able to explain how I'm feeling and make it known that I would never leave her. My mom gave me only details back around the holidays about Bree. I don't want her to think I'm abandoning her because I'm not.

I opened up the door to catch Bree behind the counter typing on some things. She peeked over at me from behind the laptop and gave me a small smile. Since I caught her in that little lie last night I've sensed a lot of distance. I'm wondering if she's already trying to kick me out and away.

I won't let that happen.

"Hey Bree," I walked up to the counter and leaned against it so I could be a little closer to her. I could smell the flowery scent from her perfume mixed with some vanilla. She smells so delicious every time I'm around her.

"Hi Fin, give me one second I need to print out this label then I'll be ready to go." Our lunch has become more of an early dinner. Or late lunch. I mean it's about two in the afternoon now.

I nodded and sat back watching her do her work. The way her body moved to complete the task showed me how she's in her element. She knows every move to make and it's become nature to her to do these tasks.

"Okay! Done. We can head out now. I told your mom I'd finish that package before leaving for the day." As she put her coat on I watched as she zipped up before looking at me. "What?"

I shook my head and opened the door for her. "You're cute you know that?" Her brown eyes gazed up at me in a little surprise and her mouth formed a small 'o' as well.

"Um...uh... thanks." She blushed and duked out of the store. We made our way downtown to our second little lunch spot. The cafe. After we got our food and sat down I looked over to her and saw that she is biting her lips nervously.

"I didn't mean to brush you off like that last night."

I nodded and took a sip of my iced tea. "I just want to know what's going on in that brain of yours?"

I could see her thinking as she opened her chip bag. "You're going off to San Diego soon."

I nodded and paused on my sandwich before looking at her. Giving her my full attention. "I do. Three days." She gulped. Her eyebrows went up in shock. She only peeked at me before looking back out the window. I could see the nerves all over her rigid body. "That doesn't mean I'm leaving forever though."

"But it is far. A whole day's ride. It's not like I can get to you and back within a reasonable time."

"So you think about coming down to San Diego?" I gave her a smirk and she rolled her eyes playfully at me. "Because I'd like that."
