Finnlay's POV
After winning game four we knew we were in this to win. We won game one, but lost two straight games by a pretty hefty margin. Boston definitely knows what they are doing. But we're not out of this just yet. There are a few post game interviews to do so I jogged over to Julio who runs the ESPN one.
"Finnlay! Great to have you tonight, how was he game tonight?"
"Well we're not out of this race yet. I definitely think this series will test both teams. I mean have you seen some of the plays we both made? Devers got so high on that line drive to third base. Who knew a man could jump that high."
"Speaking on line drives. How is preparing for dad life?"
"Ah, Julio, I'm going to keep my lady out of this, but all is well. She's here tonight actually and has traveled with us to Boston."
"Well Game five is tomorrow so what is going on in your mind right now?"
"I gotta catch them balls and hit some homers." I gave the camera wink before telling them I'm out. I headed to the clubhouse and joined the light celebration of our one game win in the series. We still got one more to win, but we have this. We'll win tomorrow-- head to Boston again and defeat them at Fenway.
Getting home around midnight due to some more than lengthy chats in the clubhouse I caught Bree pushing against the counter in pain. I immediately ran to her and held her stomach with one hand and looked up to her. "Bree, sunshine, what is going on?"
"I..." she took a few breaths in before shaking her head. "I don't know. I read online a few things about Braxton Hicks but I don't.. Ow... I don't know how to.. Fin, I don't know what to do exactly." I can tell she is in pain and I'm worried she won't be able to make our flight tomorrow at 8 am. Hell, I'm not sure I should go when she's in pain like this.
"Tell me what you need."
"Call the doctor...or someone please." She gripped my hand tightly and I knew I needed to be on it. I immediately dialed our doctor but since it's midnight I bet she won't answer. True to that I called the OBGYN office here in San Diego and got through to someone. I told them the situation and they did confirm this is Braxton Hicks. I immediately filled a bath like they said and then guided Bree to the bathroom.
"Fin, what is this?"
"Just breathe. Focus on that for me okay? The nurse on call told me to draw you a bath and massage your back. So that's what we'll do okay?" She nodded but grimaced in discomfort. I guided her into the tub and she let out a breath sitting into the tub. I got in behind her and let the bubbles flow around us. She leaned back into my hands and gripped my knee.
"Oh Fin, you played well tonight. I'm happy you are only one win away." I leaned forward and kissed her cheek.
"Thank you."
"I felt these at the stadium. I'm not going to lie. But when I got home it was... it was so uncomfortable." I kneaded the muscles in her back and she finally relaxed into my arms. "Oh this is better. Thank you."
"Anything for you."
Waking up the next morning Bree was already sitting up and staring at me. She has a hand on her stomach and gave me a grin when I woke up and wrapped myself into her. It's six A.M and we have to leave in thirty minutes to make it to the airport. "Fin..." I mumbled a response and she called my name again. "Fin, I got to admit something."
I sat up this time and looked into her brown eyes. "What is it? More Braxton Hicks?"
"Because of them, I'm going to stay home while you go to Boston." I completely sat up and stared at her. "I don't know if I want to travel and feel this uncomfortable in a new city... I want to support you but I will watch here on the TV and be waiting anxiously by my phone for you. I love you so much," she kissed me and pulled back, "but I'll be here."
I knew this would be something to discuss but I was hoping she could come. We're about to win the World Series. Her and my baby boys health takes first spot though. I nodded and kissed her before getting out of bed. "Will you drive me though?"
"Of course, All Star."
At the airport I turned to Bree before getting out. I covered her lips with mine for a delicious kiss. "Okay... I'll see you in two days, four tops."
"Yes. Remember when you win you pop that champagne Fin. You pop those bottles, baby." I chuckled and kissed her again. Before I could get out she tossed me something. "Don't forget your ski goggles for that win. You better win by the way."
The guys were bummed that Bree isn't coming. However Naomi and their new baby Bruno haven't been ready to travel yet. I'm glad they are staying back so Bree has someone to reach out to. I think she's even going over there later to watch the game.
Jogging onto the field I felt the energy in Boston. We didn't start our bat off well so now we're feilding. The fans here are insane. Way higher levels than at our stadium. The game went kind of stale. There were a few big hits but other than that, both of our pitchers were on. Then in the ninth we got five runs in making it 7 to 2. Taking the field in the bottom of the ninth I felt it. I felt the pull of the world series but I also felt the way it could slip away. I cracked my neck and got into position. I will not let any ball touch this green wall. No way.
A snap caught my attention and the ball is flying over second base into my territory. I ran so fast and dove for the ball catching it seconds before it touched. Out number one.
Our pitcher got out number two by a strikeout. A beautiful one at that. Then their home run star is up to bat. Hernandez is a beast. I'm worried he will hit this one over the Green Monster. Pitch number two he has soaring over our heads. The fans went crazy. Nope.
This ball is mine. I'm winning it. I can feel the presence of Bree as I run my ass to the wall. Jumping up I did knock myself out of balance but I felt it. The ball. The ball is in my glove.
Out number three.
I landed on the gravel and raised my glove showing the ball and soon the fans quieted down. Our team beagan running onto the field and Brody and Alec ran their asses to me out in center field with my game winning catches. "Pop the champagne baby!"
World Series Winners. Us. The fucking Padres.
"Ah! Fin, I am so proud of you!" Bree screeched on the phone. Gianna was on the couch with her and passed out. "You had a stunner of a catch. Gorgeous. Your face smashed into that wall-- get me that as a picture would you?" I let out a howl of a laugh and watched her smile at me. The visitor clubhouse is covered in champagne and full of us all now calling our loved ones-- some of them are even in here. I nodded over to Khloe who ran over.
"BREE!" Khloe took over my phone and they chatted for a few minutes before she gave the phone back to me. "Here's your woman Finny boy."
"Bree, this is... damn I cannot wait to celebrate with you."
"Well thank god I'm already pregnant."
I shook my head in laughter and took the beer Eddie handed me. "Yo Bree, have fun with my wife and kids. I'll look over Fin here. Chug this brother." Bree let out a laugh and I blew a kiss to Bree before logging off and chugging a beer to the win of the year.
"Thank God you didn't drop that ball Geraldi!"
