Finnlay's POV

Something has been off with Bree. I've tried to call her but with me being on the East Coast, I haven't been able to get her at the right time. I'm hoping tonight I can get her when she gets off of work. I've been distracted during warm-ups today and it's not the time for me to be distracted. We've had a string of away games. Started off in Chicago, then we were back home for one four game series with the D-Backs. Now we've been mostly on the east coast with the Brewers, Phillies and now the New York Mets. Next week we play in Detroit. Then we're back home and play a four game stint at home with Seattle then we head to the all Star Game. It's almost fourth of July and I'd like to spend that holiday with Bree, but I'm on the East Coast and she won't travel here with the girls.

Mateo gave me advice on how to stay calm seeing as I've told him about her concerns and how her concerns about me made me paranoid because I don't want to mess up for her. He thinks I'm whipped as shit but I don't care. She's my BG.

I am so confused as to what is going on. I've asked my mom if she's noticed anything about Bree but my mom seems to think she is doing okay. However, now that I mentioned something she's curious. I even reached out to Winnie who said she's working on it. What the hell does that mean?

"Dude what is up with you. You've been swinging your arms back and forth for minutes." Eddie said jogging up to me. I didn't realize he had already started our jog. I jogged down the length of third base to second in left field with him. "I mean you've been off for a few games now. Something up?"

We stopped jogging and I got help from our trainer to stretch my legs. Eddie got the same work-up done. "Bree's been...." I sighed and rubbed at my stubble. "Bree's been distant. I mean after her week with me we were good until I got to the East Coast."

"Anything online that's making her nervous? You said before she was nervous about your lifestyle right?"

"Yeah but it seemed to get better."

"It always does until one tiny thing changes. My first MLB season, Naomi almost left me. I was such a hot shot and kept getting invited to things and promos and what not and I couldn't pass them up. I forgot to hang out with her and the stories online got her so worked up and in her own head that she moved out for a month before I went to see her after the season. We spent the fall working on things and made a plan for the following season. Since then, we've been good and I usually do what she tells me to do. I love that woman." Eddie got this gaze in his eye and I did a few push ups to get rid of some of my pent up shit.

"Okay well I'm going to call her after the game tonight because it should be about 8 pm when we are done."

"Good luck."

⬤⬤⬤

In the hotel room I called Bree and sat back on my bed. Some of the guys are heading out tonight and I told them I wouldn't be joining like I did the other day. She picks up on the last ring. "Bree?" I hesitantly said and she was quiet before speaking up.

"Hi Fin..."

"Hey, hi." I cleared my throat to stop from sounding so excited. "Hi BG. I've missed you."

She was silent for a moment before I heard her take in a breath. "I do too. How is the East Coast? Are the games going okay?"

"Yeah not bad we lost today though. Shut out series win against New York. We have Detroit next and then we'll be home... are you sure you don't want to come out to Detroit with the girls?"

"I'm all set..."

"Bree, is something going on? Did I do something? We haven't been talking much." Barely at all. I usually send her good morning and good night texts but when we go beyond that it lacks content.
