"It's been a week since I first started interviewing Kang Taehyun," Soobin said to the camera. "Everybody was curious about him before, but curiosities have risen since I started interviewing him. Yesterday, I got an email from a reporter asking if she could talk to him about his mother."
Beomgyu, who was standing next to Kai behind the camera, looked at Soobin like he had two heads. Beomgyu never knew what was going on, and being protective of Taehyun meant that these surprises were not fun for him.
"Yes, thank you for having me." Beomgyu blanked out long enough to not hear anything before the woman said that. When he blinked a few times, he finally saw her sitting on the other side of Soobin.
She had short brown hair and looked as professional as you would expect a reporter to look. There was something familiar about her though. After thinking about it, he thought she looked like Taehyun, but he brushed it off as a coincidence.
"Taehyun has opened up about his mom a little bit in our interviews, and being given his permission, I would like for you to ask him questions too."
"I'm all ears," Taehyun smiled sweetly and any bit of fear vanished from Beomgyu's body.
"Hi Taehyun. My name is Nari. I've been meaning to talk to you for a v-very long time." She looked like she was on the verge of tears and Soobin quickly spun in his seat to comfort her. "No, no, I'm okay. It's just... I'm emotional right now."
"Well, what did you want to ask?" Taehyun asked after she regained her composure.
"What was it like growing up without a mother figure?" Was her first question.
Taehyun went on to talk about how it was probably one of the things that messed him up. He was a hurting person in a household that taught him to be strong and not to cry. And of course, he mentioned how he wished his mom could've been there to protect him.
"Sometimes I wished I could run into her arms and cry. I always liked to believe she was an angel who could never hurt me like he did."
"Is there anything you wish you could say to her right now?"
There were so many things he wanted to say. How could she leave him? How could she have made a baby with that horrible man?
But out of all of the things going through his mind, only one of them was true.
"I love you mom," he said, looking at the woman who was now tearing up once again. "What's wrong?"
"I just... I know she'd be so glad to hear that." She walked over and hugged him, confusing literally everybody.
"How would you know that?"
Nari pulled away and kneeled in front of him, and it was then that Taehyun saw his own soul in her eyes. "I know her. I'm her sister."
"No, no," Taehyun gasped and stood up. "No. No. No. I don't have any other family besides my father."
"Sweetheart, that's what he wanted you to think."
"Don't-" he looked at Beomgyu and then back and her, and then at Soobin and Kai. "All of you, just... don't!" He stormed out from being overwhelmed and Beomgyu left to follow him.
The hallway was empty as it always is when they have an argument, but right now it was different. There wasn't a single sound other than the rushed steps of two pairs of feet, which definitely let Taehyun know Beomgyu wasn't far behind him. But it seemed like they were seriously the only people there.
Nobody else to disturb them or get in their way.
Finally, Beomgyu stopped once he was sick of chasing him down the hall. "It's just you and me Taehyun." Taehyun's footsteps came to a halt and Beomgyu stared at his back from down the hall. "It's hard to understand, even for someone as intelligent as you." He started walking toward him. "I know you're thinking about a lot of things. You feel betrayal from your father, you're confused, and you're sad. I understand."
He stopped when he was a couple feet behind the boy and took a deep breath. The walls seemed to be getting tighter and tighter around him, threatening to crush him if he didn't say the right thing. As if there was a riddle somehow. If he didn't say the right thing to Taehyun, then both of them would be crushed. Literally.
"Nobody else is here. Why don't you talk to me? It's just you and me now."
He reached forward and gently grabbed Taehyun's hand, sighing in relief when he saw the younger's shoulders visibly become less tense.
"It's just you and me." Taehyun turned around and slowly leaned his head on Beomgyu's shoulder. "Forever."
And now Taehyun had an aunt.
Great.
