Chapter 9
"What's the news?" I asked resting my hands in my jeans pockets. My parents both leaned in forward slightly and I felt like backing away, but why? They were my parents I didn't need to wory. The silence in the room thickened further as no one talked, I cleared my throat. "Well, is it good news?" I tried to smile a little bit but the nerves were starting to get to me.

"Not exactly" my mum began, and that moment I could tell I was going to know something I really didn't want to. I felt as if I was in a protective bubble that was keeping me away from some sort of horrible truth. I took a shaky breath in then out. My mum continued "me and your farth-" she was cut off by Ash Jones stumbling into my kitchen. My parents shared a wierd look and I inhaled half in shock, half in relief. I quietly thanked Ash was wearing a shirt today, the thought almost made me laugh.

"Mr and Mrs Johnson, I'm so sorry for the intrusion but can I please borrow your daughter for a few moments?" Ash spoke quickly but he used his manners well.

My dad stood up from his seat at the table "Excuse me, but what gives you the right to come in to my home and demand to speak with my daughter?"

Ash looked as if he hadn't expected that at all "Um...it's very important?"

I nodded "Yea, isn't about that thing we were talking about yesterday? It's extremely important." Ash nodded and I quickly grabbed his arm and led him outside my house before my parents could stop us. "So what do you need to talk to me about?" I asked letting go of Ash.

"This is hard for me to tell you" he started and I rolled my eyes.

"Don't tell me, you're in love with me?" I joked and rolled my eyes again but more dramatically.

His skin went a strangely white colour as if he was going to throw up just at the thought of liking me - how faltering - he cleared his throat. "I could never love you!" I laughed but he shook his head "That's not why I need to talk to you."

"Why?" I cocked an eyebrow feeling confused.

"Lola is in jail." His words hit me like a punch in the face.

"What?!" I half screamed. Ash took a cautious step back from me and raised his hands as if to say 'woah calm down'.

"Don't worry, don't worry." He said carelessly "We just need to bail her out."

"We?" I asked trying to keep my voice level "We? Are you kidding me, for gods sake!" I looked at Ash but he didn't say anything. "So let me guess, you want me to bail her out?"

"Kinda...yeah..." He mumbled quietly.

"What do you mean 'kinda'? How much is it going to cost?" Ash looked back up at me.

"Only £70 but she already has the momey we just have to get to it." He replied.

I nodded "Lets go then. Just one question; where is the money?"

Ash smiled then carried on walking, I followed him feeling annoyed already.
