Ash's POV
Chapter 21
"This isn't going to work." I said to Evie over the phone. I couldn't stop twisting my thumbs anxiously, Kriss was wearing a stunning pinky-white coloured dress that went down just past her knees. She was waiting for her pretend date inside the fancy restaurant, only she didn't know that her date was pretend. She also didn't know that I was about to walk in - if I plucked up enough courage anyway.

"It always seems impossible until it is done." Evie said reassuringly.

"Wow, somehow you managed to sound cliché and wise in the same sentence, huh?" I said, trying to hide the nerves in my voice.

"You just need to calm down, okay?" I nodded, even though she couldn't see me. "Now go on in there and have a wonderful date with that girl you like! And remember actions speak louder then words, good luck!"

"Thank you." I managed before I ended the call. I walked forward and up the steps into the restaurant, there was a wait sign inside stopping me from going straight to Kriss. I wipped away any sweat that could have been on my temple and slackened my tie on my suit to make myself look more casual. Had I overdressed? I pushed the thought away and remained calm as I waited impatiently to go to Kriss.

Finally a waitress came to the sign and offered me a seat but I politely declined and said how I was meeting someone and they were already here, then I walked towards Kriss. Her back was facing me and she seemed to be studying one of the many amazing paintings on the wall.

I pretended to walk past her, then glanced back and notice her. "Hey," I smiled brightly "what are you doing here?"

"Um..." She seemed a little stunned and I'm not quite sure if thats a bad or good sign? "Well I'm waiting for a date?"

"Oh, a blind date?" I tried to sound surprised, was I being too enthusiastic?

"Yea, it's a blind date." Kriss paused, then suddenly her eyes widened, oh no, please tell me she hadn't just realised this was a set up!? "Oh god, are you my blind date?"

I shook my head quickly "No, no, no." I denied, did this count as a lie? "I've just come from a party, I didn't expect you to be here."

"Oh thank god." She waved her hand and sighed in relief.

"Excuse me?" I said without thinking. God I could be cocky sometimes, I never did it on purpose.

"Sorry, I didn't mean it like that..." She trailed off and looked down at her drink. While she was doing that I took the chance to pull out the chair and sit down opposite her. "What are you doing?" She gasped.

"Sitting down." I smirked playfully. "Well, how can I leave you alone when you've obviously been stood up."

"I have not been stood up." She winned. I got up to leave but then she grabbed my arm and pulled me back down. Well that was easier than I'd expected. "I guess it wouldn't be that bad if I had a friend."

Friend. Friend. Friend. Friend. "Friend?" Damn it I really didn't want to say that out loud.

"Yea." Kriss smiled, her long brown hair was styled perfectly around her, she had obviously made an effort for this date.

A sudden pang of guilt filled me, how could I do this to her. I was being so selfish and hurtful to Kriss, and what was my reasoning?

"Hey," Kriss waved her hands infront of my face, snapping me from my thoughts "what are you thinking?"

"Um, you, um, you look beautiful tonight." Kriss' cheeks dusted a little pink from blushing at the compliment.

"Thank you." She smiled "How come you're so smartly dressed, if you only went to a party?"

Wait is that a compliment for me? "Um, well can I tell you the truth." She nodded. "Well I was never at a party."

She furrowed her brow "Then why...?"

"It's a secret" I winked at her and she blushed again. Either I was extremely charming or she got embarrassed very easily.
