Get through Senior year. That's all I needed to do then I would finally be able to get out of Oklahoma.
Head down and keep quiet. That's all I had to do and I would survive. That was my strategy.

"I'm so fucking proud of you, my friend!" Demi smiles, holding her hand up in the air waiting for me to high-five her.
I don't.
Yeah, sure it was a big moment to stand up to Mercer but my mind was still disconcerted. It's been a few days now since my altercation with him and I have yet to hear anything about a video. But it didn't stop my mind from reeling. What if he does release that video?
There was a high possibility of being known as a whore around school.
Gosh, why would he even say he'd do something like that to me? Honestly, what did I ever do to Mercer Petrov for him to treat me like this? To bully me.
"Oh, hold your head up, babe. Mercer is an asshole and he'll see that once things don't work out for him with football." She nods, her words reassuring.
I sigh and rub at my temples. A headache. I get one every time his name reaches my ear. I was just tired of all of and every chance I have to distract myself from him in any way, it's impossible.
He's like a phantom. Appearing unwanted whenever he wanted.
"You know what will distract you?" Demi jumps off my bed, pulling out her phone. Her fingers tapped aggressively across the screen while I waited. When she turned the phone to me, showing me the content, my head shook without hesitation.
"No."
Her lips turned down slightly. "Come on." she urges. "It will be fun and that asshole won't be on your mind."
I wasn't going to a party.
"I've better things to do than go to a party." I huffed, shifting on the bed.
"Oh, yeah? Like what?" I opened my mouth to reply and she quickly said something that made my lips seal shut. "And don't say studying."
With the roll of my eyes, I shook my head. "Whatever."
"Come on, Gen. It will be fun."
After letting her dread the first few minutes, I gave in. "Fine but only for a few hours."
