Get through Senior year. That's all I needed to do then I would finally be able to get out of Oklahoma.
Head down and keep quiet. That's all I had to do and I would survive. That was my strategy.
Until I caught the attention of the wrong person.

"Again, ladies. Don't stop running even if your feet hurt." Coach Daniels demands, blowing her whistle.
It was almost a wrap on practice today and Coach Daniels was being a little harder on us because of the game that was coming up this weekend. The last game before finals and everything counted.
I should have been on my A-game today even if it was practice, but I wasn't as focused as I should be and that was all because of a guy that kept me up for nearly the entire night.
But I wasn't really upset about it. Turns out that Mercer Petrov was an easy person to talk to. Well, that was the case when he wasn't mad all the time.
My bully was still an asshole when he wanted to be.
Just thinking about it makes a smile appear on my face without my knowledge. It wasn't until one of the girls on my team caught my attention. The goal girl was what she goes by but that wasn't her name.
"Who's the lucky guy?" Cameron was her name and she seemed curious about the look I was making on my face.
"What?" I blink, continuing my pace.
"You're glowing, something I've never really seen since we've been playing soccer for a few years now. Something special must've happened or it has to be a guy. So, which is it?" She asks again, a smile on her face.
"Could it not just be me having a good day?" I shrug, following the group that rounded the school.
"I won't push but I wish you the best of luck. Having a boyfriend in your last year of high school is tough. Especially if you guys are going to different colleges if you're going to college at all." She shrugs unaware of how her words are making me slow down. "Anyways, see you around, Gen." She smiles, jogging up to catch up with the teammates ahead of us.
I slowed to a stop, taking a couple of breaths in while letting her words cling to me. I have yet to know where I want to go but the thought of Mercer being so far and the possibility of us not having a chance caused a bitter feeling inside.
Just thinking about it brought back the facetime conversation we had.
