h Esme was still on edge ever since the boat incident. To be honest Pope was making it painfully obvious he was stressing over it, while Esme was used to keeping her feelings on the down low. Her cheek was still swollen from Rafes sucker punch and the bruise on her stomach probably wasn't going away anytime soon. People gave her weird looks when she walked down the streets, and one lady even wanted to call the cops on Natalie because she thought she was the one who caused the bruises.

Esme wanted to scream that she should do it, and Esme would even support it.

But enough.

There were more important things to worry about. Like finding the royal merchant, which was exactly what they were doing now.

Esme and Kie lowered the drone  into the ocean and it was Esme's job to keep track of how deep the drone was getting.

"One hundred feet." She reported for the first time. Pope was quoting the Hobbit and Esme couldn't help but chuckle, rolling her eyes.

"Dork." She mumbled under her breath.

"But you love that dork." Kie mentioned picking up on what Esme was saying.

"Yeah. As a friend." Esme denied immediately. Pope was her best friend, and that's what he was going to stay as.

However there was a part of Esme deep down that saw herself going out on dates with the boy, and loving him. Esme shuddered at the thought and looked out into the ocean again.

"Four hundred feet." Esme reported yet again.

"The tides turning." Kie added.

"Keep the tether out the prop!" Jj called. Esme rolled her eyes at that.

"I'm trying!" She called back.

"Seven hundred feet." Esme said continuing to drop the rope.

"Guys, this isn't looking good." Esme mentioned as she stared up at the cloudy sky.

"Nine hundred!" Kie yelled.

"Nine twenty!"

"John B there's too much current we're gonna lose it!" Esme shouted over the thunder.

"Esme!" Pope called and the girl stared into the sea.

"Nine sixty. Nine seventy. Nine eighty!"

"We found it? About goddamn time." Esme breathed as she let go of the rope, walking over to the screen.

"Are you kidding me?" Esme asked as she watched the screen. There was nothing there, except for the fish swimming by. Esme was disappointed. All of this for something that wasn't even there.

"It's not there." She muttered

"Shit. Look just, pull the drone up." John B instructed.

"Look we can do another pass. Recharge the battery." Pope suggested and Esme shook her head.
