(Returning to the Clan)
(All the medicine birds, are back up on or in the hallow while Tombre stands in front the King)
(All the remaining phoenix are on the ground or in trees)
Richard: To my clan! I am here to announce our new medicine bird! Tombre!
(Niki immediately covers her ears and the phoenix squeal and squawk in praise)
Richard: (to Tombre) And now to take your time in choosing your apprentice.
Tombre: Yes sir. (Bows with wings open and then flies off back to the medicine hallow)
Clauda: (to Tombre) That was amazing. Your now the new Medicine Bird. How does it feel?
Tombre: (shrugs shoulders) I don't know. I guess it feels good.
Plats: (stern but soft) And it's time for your apprentice, Tombre.
Tombre: I was told three would want to be an apprentice, but only one would actually become my apprentice.
Mirca: I think you should go and enjoy this day. (Nudges) Don't let them stress you out. Go have fun. Today is about you.
Tombre: (shakes off) I guess you're right Mirca. I am going to have fun.
Mirca: Now, that's the spirit!
(Tombre flies out of the hallow)
(Celebration carries throughout the rest of the day and before it hits nightfall, everything becomes more slow and three little fledglings are on the ground listening to Tombre's stories)
Tombre: (mid sentence) And there I was at the Great Peak Stones where I ended up seeing Tallow once again in the afterlife.
Fledgling (right/boy): (sets wings on the head of one in the middle) Woahh. That was cool! So did you like die and then come back to life?
Tombre: (struggling to find words) Uh... It's a bit more complicated than that, but we'll go with it.
Fledgling (middle/girl): Wow. Now I really want to become an apprentice.
Fledgling (left/boy): You can, but as much as I enjoyed those stories, I don't think I'll make the cut to be an apprentice.
(The two outer fledglings then flutter away while the middle one still stands with sparkling eyes)
Tombre: (happily) So you want to become my apprentice?
Fledgling: Yep!
Tombre: Well, what's your name little one?
Fledgling: It's Talon.
Tombre: (opens a wing) Well, welcome aboard Talon.
(Talon's eyes continue to shine)
(Two weeks later at Niki's house in her room)
(Niki is quietly tinkering with Ziggy on her bed, when Philomena nearly crashes into one of the windows)
(Niki pops her head up in hearing a thud like squawk)
(She rushes to the window and finds Philomena on the windowsill shaking off)
Niki: (opens the window almost laughs) Are you okay?
Philomena: (finishes shaking off) Physically yes. Mentally no.
Niki: (concerned and leans on the windowsill) What's going on?
Philomena: It's my mother and father.
