Bittersweet Dispersal

(At the Fountain of Healing during mid day)

(Scattered whimpers are heard throughout the fountain as we see Lady Seldon pad her way to the Sivannae pack with something in her mouth)

(Under her peripheral, you can hear almost painful wheezing. Seldon sets the item in her mouth down and sniffs around the unknown wolf)

(Kelpchi is heard in the background)

Kelpchi: Lotus...

Lady Seldon: (Looks to Hutson) I'm afraid there's nothing I can do. This is all natural.

Hutson: (lowers ears back and tilts head down) I figured as much. (To Lotus) Lotus... Let us find a way to ease your pain at least.

Lotus: (weak) No... I only ask for one thing...

Hutson: (perks ears a little) And that is?

Lotus: Make sure... that Kelpchi... finds a good mate....

(Huston veers over at Mandaba who is looking down for an answer)

Huston: (ears lower again) Please Lotus, let us do something.

Lotus: It's already about to be my time...

(A time of silence is grieved as we are on the rest of the pack. They shutter their eyes and lower their ears even more as the slow somber whimpering has exhaled it's last breath)

(Pipus of the group closes his eyes and raises his head to initiate a goodbye howl. The rest joins in as we are heard soft transgressional music. The scene veers through the pack and then eventually zooms out as more howls are heard from the other packs)

(A week goes by as everything seems rather normal. The pack isn't completely over their grief for Lotus, but it is over for the most part)

(Niki swings by for a visit to see how things are. During this point I time it is mating season for packs)

(Males show off their dominance with wrestling one another for a female. Over at the Sivannae pack, Pipus, Pirp, and Kayleen are all duking it out for Kelpchi)

Niki: (walks up to the pack and to Hutson) So, what's going on here? And where's Lotus?

Hutson: (lying down and lowers head and ears) I'm afraid she's no longer with us.

(Niki shuts in silence as she gasps in disbelief)

Niki: (voice breaks) Lotus... (Regains her thoughts) W-When did this happen?

Hutson: (slightly raises head) Last week. She lived a long life, but now it's her time to tend to us in a different way.

Niki: (sighs) So does this mean eventually...?

Hutson: That my time is coming? Yes. (Glints a smile) But not for a while. I understand you are young and you still have a hard time letting go what you know, but I let's not dwell on the past and focus on what's in front of us. Okay?

Niki: (wipes a tear and lightly chuckles) I suppose you're right. And that's exactly what another friend has said to me.

Hutson: (scoffs happily) And I bet this friend and I would get along.

(Niki imagines the scenario where Hutson would meet Shadow and it not ending quite how she plans)

Niki: (hand behind neck) Sure, we'll go with that. (Closed eyes and lowers head) But, I give my condolences to Lotus, wherever she may be now.

(Hutson and Niki share a smile with one another)

Niki: (hand behind neck) But, anyway what is really going on?
