Sirius opened his eyes and looked around, unsure where exactly he was until he saw a figure approach him, a figure he never thought he'd see again, his best friend and brother, James.
"Hey Pads, I know you must feel a bit weird, but it's okay. You're safe." James said, reaching out a hand.
"This is one hell of a dream." Sirius scoffed as he took James' hand to stand up but James shook his head.
"It isn't a dream... That last hit from Bellatrix... Well, you can't go back." James said quietly, and Sirius began to understand.
"No... No no please no... Harry needs me! Remus needs me! Please! Please..." Sirius began to cry, and James could do nothing but embrace him.
"Sirius, you've done so much, I know you may have only been there for a few years but... Thank you, for Harry, he needed a father in his life, but he needed crazy uncle more" said another voice, and when Sirius opened his eyes he saw Lily standing there.
"You... You know what happened?" Sirius asked.
"Of course, we can see everything from here, come, we'll show you." Lily said, guiding him through a sea of white, but as they walked it began to look more and more like reality, until they came to a house, their house. When he entered it was just as they left it, except for one difference, on one of their living room walls sat a large screen.
"What is that?" Sirius asked, still completely overwhelmed by the fact he just died.
"That's what shows us the mortal world, look," Lily grabbed a remote and spoke into it "Remus Lupin"
The screen flashed up a live feed, Remus was alone, he was sobbing, the door of the room he was in creaked open and Molly Weasley shuffled in, holding in one hand a piece of parchment.
"How are you?" Molly asked quietly, sitting down next to Remus and placing a hand on his back.
"Shit." Remus replied bluntly through sobs.
"Dear, I know it's hard but-" Molly began but Remus snapped at her.
"You don't know Molly. He was the love of my fucking life! I lost him for 12 years and the second I get him back he's torn from me again. How could you possibly understand that?"
Molly nodded and tears filled her eyes "You're right... I can't. But we are all grieving this loss, Remus. You're not alone. Wherever he is, he is so proud of you, and he loves you." Silence filled the room for a moment before she spoke again.
"He... He gave me this, for you, for if he... well." She pulled out a letter and gave it to Remus wordlessly before standing up and leaving the room.
Sirius watched as Remus handled the letter, his own eyes were running with tears, Remus tore it open and began to read it, tears dripping down on to the page.
'Remus, if you've got this letter it means the worst has happened, we've been separated again. I want you to know how much I love you, each day I'm with you brings me more joy than the last and if we made it through this war I was planning to make you mine forever. You've grown into a man I have so much respect for, and I wish you all the best. Please, keep Harry safe. Yours forever, even in death, Padfoot.'
Remus erupted in tears and as did Sirius, Lily and James sat on either side of him, holding him gently.
"I'm sorry I just... Fuck, it breaks me to see him this way and know I can't do anything." Sirius sobbed, covering his eyes with his hands.
