"Not going home for Christmas, Mr Black?" Mcgonagall asked Sirius, who shook his head.

"Nah, they don't want me there, and anyway, who'd look after Remus?" Sirius joked, nudging his boyfriend who rolled his eyes.

"I don't need taken care of." Remus laughed.

McGonagall had to admit that she had a soft spot for the four boys, as much as Sirius and James wreaked constant havoc she found herself taking on an almost motherly role for them.

"Well, I'm glad you two have one another, especially you Remus, you're a good influence on him." She said, smiling at the two boys. To her she still saw the little 11 year olds who had just come into Hogwarts for the first time but truth be told they were nearly adults now at 16 and 17.

"Oi! I like to think I'm a bad influence on him." Sirius grinned, looking up at the werewolf who raised an eyebrow and laughed.

"Well whatever the case may be, don't get into too much trouble over Christmas." McGonagall said, smiling at the two before walking off.

"Wish I could make that promise." Sirius smirked and Remus rolled his eyes again.

"Every day I question my taste in men." Remus joked and Sirius faked a look of hurt.

"Woooow, so what, you don't love me?" Sirius said dramatically.

"Hm, I wouldn't go that far." Remus smiled, leaning down to kiss his boyfriend who put a hand up in front of his kiss to stop him.

"New game. From now until Christmas, no kisses unless we're under mistletoe." Sirius smirked.

"Now how is that fair?" Remus asked.

"It isn't." Sirius shrugged, beginning to walk back to the Gryffindor common room. The whole way Remus kept his eyes on the roof, looking for mistletoe but he didn't see any. There was one piece in the window of the Gryffindor common room which Remus made a note of but beyond that he couldn't find any. That night the two of them were cuddled up in Remus' bed, talking sleepily.

"Mm baby we should go to sleep." Sirius mumbled, and Remus nodded, instinctively going to give his boyfriend a kiss but once again Sirius put up his hand.

"I told you, unless there's mistletoe." Sirius smiled.

"But not even a goodnight kiss?" Remus said sadly and Sirius shook his head. Remus huffed and just cuddled into his boyfriend instead, and eventually the two of them managed to get to sleep.

The next day remus got up early and decided he would put mistletoe everywhere. He began with the dorm, putting a piece on the cover above his bed, then at the doorway, then moved onto the common room, putting it over sofas and doorways and just in random places. He slowly made his way down the hallways, placing mistletoe in random places all the way down to the great hall.

When he arrived back to the Dorms Sirius was still sound asleep, so Remus moved back to his spot behind him, wrapping his arms around Sirius waist and moving his face into Sirius' neck and slowly placing kisses up it until he reached his cheek.

This began to wake Sirius up and he mumbled happily before jumping up "Hey! No kisses unless there's mistletoe." Sirius said, eyes still half shut.

"Look up." Remus smiled and Sirius did only to see mistletoe above them.

"You sly motherfucker..." Sirius smiled, leaning in to kiss Remus properly for the first time since the day before. All week in the lead up to Christmas Sirius' attempted to keep blocking Remus' affection with his rule only for Remus to point out that they were indeed below mistletoe.

It became a tradition for them to only kiss beneath mistletoe between the 15th and 25th of December every year which of course meant Remus was always scrambling to cover the house in the plant.

Until one year the tradition was broken, it was Christmas eve and the two were sat by the fire drinking wine. Remus was simply gazing at Sirius and smiling at the way he looked, his face glowed orange with the light from the flames and he looked just as gorgeous as the day Remus fell in love with him.

"Pads..." Remus said hesitantly, Sirius turned to him, a small smile on his face.

"yeah?" he asked, and Remus took a breath before sitting up properly.

"You know normally I know just what to say, i'm eloquent and well-spoken but when i'm with you... sometimes I just can't find the right words to describe how much I love you. You came into my life and treated my like no one else ever had, I love everything about you from your smug exterior to your stupid no kidding unless there's mistletoe rule. And I want to see your face everyday from the second I wake up to the second I go to sleep again for the rest of my life, so..." Remus moved to the floor and got onto one knee, and Sirius' eyes widened in shock, filling with tears as he could tell what was coming.

Remus pulled a ring box out from his back pocket and opened it, inside was a ring which resembled a daisy chain, and in the centre of each flower was a diamond. Sirius stared down at the ring and at his boyfriend waiting for him to ask the question.

"Will you marry me?" Remus finally asked, without a beat Sirius began nodding and he joined Remus on the floor, tears flooding his cheeks. Remus put the ring on his new fiancé before leaning in to kiss him, and that was the only time their tradition was broken.
