Surprise

You closed the apartment door behind you, giving it an extra tug to guarantee it was truly shut.

As you made your way down the staircase, you began to feel the cool breeze from outside. Spring was around the corner, displayed by some life being brought back to the city's plant network. The snow felt like a distant memory at this point.

You remember Jungkook calling you late one night in January to come outside. You had grudgingly evacuated your warm sheets and wrapped a fuzzy blanket around your body.

When you eventually made your way down to the streets in the pitch black, Jungkook was standing there smiling and waiting for you. He told you he saw it was the first snow in Seoul and instantly rushed over to experience it with you. That was a treasured memory, and really cute of him.

That was actually the first time Jungkook spent the night at your place. The first of many honestly, since every free minute Jungkook had from his busy schedule, he ran over to spend the time with you.

Your photography business had really slowed down, there were fewer customers each week. But you kept your spirits high and had just enough money to scrape the bills and basic necessaries. You were content.

Your two week break had been relaxing and very needed, mostly filled with Jungkook-themed activities. Well, that's what the entire two months had been like, to be fair. You had spent some time with your friends and took Daeshim on a tour of the city. But most nights were preoccupied with Jungkook having enough time for dinner or a walk around the river.

The time had really flown, unsettlingly quickly. Jungkook had quickly become the centre of your focus every minute of every day. It had become a slight inconvenience when you were trying to put your attention on anything, for example clients or general daily activities.

Your feelings had grown stronger each time he entered your mind, and you feared the effect he'd had on your heart in only two months. Things were moving so fast, it felt hard to keep up sometimes.

You closed the apartment gate behind you and saw the taxi you'd called waiting for you on the pavement. The driver was a sweet looking old man who had a fresh scent to his car.

You sat down and made polite, small talk for a little while, before falling silent and admiring the view of Seoul at night. The lights, the stars, everything about this city had you tied around its finger.

Jungkook had messaged you the address of a location he wanted to meet you at. It wasn't a familiar postcode and it was the other side of the city, so you called a cab to give you a lift.

Jungkook hadn't given any information of this surprise, despite all your methods of trying to steal hints. He was firm in wanting your true, untainted reaction.

The excitement and anxiety grew as the distance between both of you decreased. The streets slowly became less well-lit and more narrow. It looked like an area of flats packaged like sardines, almost overlapping each other.

You prayed this place filled with scary energy wasn't the final destination, before feeling your stomach drop as the driver pulled in by a row of crammed buildings, stacked high into the sky.

'We've arrived, ma'am,' the man in front of you stated, turning off his engine.

'Oh... thank you,' you stuttered as you payed the driver and opened the door, stepping onto the pavement blindly, no light present to guide you. You cautiously shut the door and stood in the thick air, feeling for your phone to message Jungkook.

You felt a cool wall grasp your back as your phone lit up the surrounding environment. You kept checking around you as you scrolled through your contacts to find Jungkook.

You began to type to ask if he was close with the wind whistling, causing your ears to ring. You then jumped out of your skin as a breath came out of nowhere and tickled your neck. You jumped back and shone the light of your phone on the intruders face.

'Hey! What's wrong?' The familiar husky voice soothed your eardrums as Jungkook's doe eyes and cheeky grin glowed under your light.

You took a deep breath, relieved to have his warm presence near you again.

'Sorry, this place has just got me really on edge,' you said, reaching up to give Jungkook a quick "hello" peck on the lips. It was crazy how each one still reminded you of the first.

'I know, I'm hoping to move it from here soon, maybe closer to the office,' Jungkook said, rummaging in his pockets. You heard the unmistakable sound of keys tying themselves around his fingers.

'"It?"' You questioned.

'You'll see,' Jungkook grinned at your curiosity. He grabbed your hand and led you to a door a few metres from the spot you had been standing.

He brought you in front of a broad, wood door. There were some splinters hanging out of the entrance, and the paint was chipped in areas. Jungkook unlocked the door and pushed is open, gesturing for you to enter.

You stepped in, on edge with the unfamiliarity, but comforted by the dim light bulb, reducing the degree of the creepiness you were experiencing.

The door was pushed behind you and Jungkook edged you forward to a staircase.

'The fourth floor,' Jungkook said, laying a hand on your shoulder.

You jogged up the steps, the excitement of what Jungkook was hiding returned due to your wariness of the non-homely streets dissolving.

As you found the fourth floor, Jungkook rested his hand in a nook in your lower back, guiding you to the third door you approached.

An identical door to the entrance of the building entered your vision. The same splinters and paint chips, giving a relaxed and almost abandoned feel to the structure.

'Here we are,' Jungkook said, moving by your side to open the door with the same key.

Jungkook fought to get the key in the lock, eventually turning it and the squeaky door falling open.

Jungkook blocked your vision of the room as he stood in the doorway, however when the entrance was widened fully, he stood to the side in the hallway after quickly switching on a light and allowed you to peak inside.
