The song came to its end, your voices and the drums faded into silence. You relaxed your wrists and leant forward in preparation to stand up again.
Jungkook saw this motion and caught you off-guard by grabbing your hips and rotating you on his lap so you were facing him, with both legs dangling on one side of his body. It was a swift action which caused you to topple over and your palms landed on his shoulders for support.
You poised yourself and sat up, just above Jungkook's eye level. He was staring at you and cupped your hands from his collarbones into his palms.
He cleared his throat, looking to his side for a millisecond.
'Y/N, I...' he began, removing one of his hands from yours to nervously sweep his hair back from his forehead. 'I've been thinking recently about - everything really. And you've grown to mean so much to me.'
He would stare directly into your iris before anxiously moving his vision towards his lap or the side. You smiled again at his words. He wasn't often vocal about how he felt about you, you thought because you'd both promised to keep things light and fun. But each time he would say anything small about your time together, it would replay in your mind for the next week and never let your grin fade.
'There's a lot of uncertainty in my life at the moment,' he continued, returning back to your eyes. 'But my feelings for you are something I never question and feel so sure about.'
You felt your pulse become a little stronger and your cheeks flush.
You opened your mouth to reciprocate your feelings, but he started speaking again before you managed to vocalise.
'I don't know if I should say this because I'm so scared I'll frighten you off, because I haven't known you long... But maybe it's the volume of time we've spent together that was a catalyst to my feelings.'
Your heart was pumping a mile a minute, you listened intently to each word that exited his mouth. Your skin began to tingle but you felt frozen in motion, the smile vanished off your face and replaced with wide, bug eyes, desperate for him to finish what he was saying.
His free hand hovered up to the side of your face, tucking a few strands of hair behind your ear. His warm fingers felt ice cold and pinched the skin which he had caressed.
'I think I... I think I love you, Y/N,' he whispered, the sentence burning your ears as you melted into a pool on the ground.
Your heart stopped racing. It stopped altogether for a second as you softened under his puppy eyes, which quickly jolted back to the floor, nervously.
He'd said it. He'd confessed those three words you'd pushed back in your head for the past two weeks because you were terrified of how intensely and quickly they'd risen to the surface. You'd tried to not acknowledge them, but hearing him say the trio dragged them to the tip of your tongue and they pleaded to be released.
'I know it's soon - it's so soon. But I've felt it for a little while and just wanted to say it because I'm just really bad at compressing things,' Jungkook rambled, looking everywhere but at you. 'I know it's kind of the wrong order as well, but I've been meaning to ask you recently anyway, but everything's so messed up I don't know if its right.'
He'd lost you. His sentences made no sense to you, but you were still glowing at his previous confession.
You cupped his cheeks and forced his eyes to look at you. His ears were glowing red and you were beaming at how cute he was acting under his anxiety.
Jungkook took a deep breath, gently removing your hands from his jaw and enlacing his fingers with yours.
'I was going to ask if you...' he smirked, some confidence returning to his voice. 'Please be my girlfriend, Y/N?'
Oh. Damn.
Your eyebrows flew up, your head jolted back in surprise and the race of your heart re-began.
Had he really just..?
You tried to absorb the shock that was trapped in your throat by swallowing hard, but the lump remained. Jungkook had so quickly pulled the plug of the "just having fun" phase, and it caused you to feel a little short of breath.
You returned to his desperate stare, and squeezed his palms.
'I'd love to be your girlfriend, Jungkookie,' you whispered, moving your face closer to his. You stopped once you'd made contact with his forehead and felt his relived breath tickle your lips.
You looked deep into his eyes, the lattice of your fingers feeling similar to the hold this boy had over your heart.
You subtracted the short length between the both of you by pressing your lips lightly onto his. He mirrored your movement, you could feel his relief in the reciprocated pressure.
You knew in that moment exactly why you were each other's escape. Feeling his warmth on you melted any worries or thoughts of external events. Your feelings for him exited the other positive emotions and left you glowing and constantly feeling like you were flying in an airy, light breeze.
A realization hit you while your mouth was entangled with his. You pulled away swiftly, Jungkook's head jolting forward, surprised by your sudden movement. He re-positioned himself, raising his eyebrows curiously and tilting his head as if in amusement.
'Sorry, I just realized that I said it in my head but not out loud,' you smiled, squeezing Jungkook's fist which was still clung around yours. 'I love you, too - by the way.' You almost laughed at how ridiculous you sounded saying such a meaningful thing with a relaxed tone.
You had tried to say it casually, ignoring the weight that dissolved from your shoulders once the phrase was released from it's prison. Those three words hadn't been uttered often by you - of course to close family and also to your previous boyfriend. But you and him had said 'I love you' since the first date, your young mindsets causing this. The words that should feel like music to ears, quickly lost meaning and ended up being used as a synonym for 'goodbye' mostly.
But as you announced the phrase to Jungkook, your heart beat happily, thankful to finally be heard by your voice box.
Jungkook beamed at you, confessing that he thought you'd tried to brush over his declaration because he'd said it too soon. You giggled and melted back under his grasp. He moved his hands from yours to grasp your thighs and drag one to each side of his body. Both your lips reconnected and you pressed your bodies into each other, embodying the expression; "two idiots in love."
Every organ agreed with the statement your heart had preached to Jungkook, except one. One organ cried as you fooled around with Jungkook and had wailed as you agreed to be his girlfriend.
The brain, the voice of realism, screamed at you. Because now things were getting serious. You were now officially in a relationship with a man who'd reserved his ring finger for another woman.
The organ begged you to question what this meant, where was this leading? But it had been such a perfect night, it felt like wrong timing to tear up the dreamland you were both floating in in that moment.
So you shushed your mind and gave your heart the spotlight.
