chapter four

~Scarlet's point of view~

I was upstairs getting ready, I did my hair and makeup. At around 7:30 the doorbell rang, I rushed downstairs and opened the door before anyone else could. I opened the door to see Sodapop, "Hey Scarlet...you ready to go?", "Yeah." Before I went out the door I shouted to my family or to really anyone who could hear me, "I'm going out...be back later." I followed Sodapop out to his truck, he opened the door for me...it was really cute. We were driving when he looked at me and smiled, "you look pretty", "Thank you...you don't look so bad yourself." He grinned at me and turned his head back to look at the road, "So how did you know where Cherry lived?", "Well in a town like this....everyone knows where the most richest soc lives", "You know...I'm not like them. All the other socs are just assholes...they think they are better because they have more money....but they aren't, especially Bob Sheldon...I have no idea what my cousin sees in him." Sodapop nodded to show he was listening, "So...you have any siblings?", "Yeah just one...her name is Rose, she's 14. Everyone in my family loves her because she's so pretty and smart...I'm just a loser. But what about you? You have any siblings?", "Well actually yeah I do, I have an older brother named Darry, and a younger brother named Ponyboy..it's actually really funny because he's 14 too." I thought about the name Ponyboy and how unique of  a name it was, "Your brothers name is very unique and it is funny that your brother is 14, maybe he should meet my sister sometime", "Trust me he would love too." We kept driving and after a little over 5 minutes we arrived at the mini golf course, "Mini golf? Mini golf is definitely my thing...I'm pretty good so be prepared to lose Curtis", "Well see about that." We paid to get in and we started at hole one, we worked our way through the course and had a really good time talking to each other. We were at the last hole and I made a hole in one...it took Sodapop a couple tries to get his golf ball in the hole....okay so maybe more than a couple tries, I counted and it took him 15 tries. "YES! I win!!!! I told you I'm good at mini golf", "You only won this round because  I let you", "Sure you did." He laughed and looked at me, you wanna get something to eat?", "That would be perfect." We went to this little diner called the "dingo". We ordered our food and talked non-stop...after a little while I decided to ask him something personal, "So..i hear you talk about your brothers...but you haven't said anything about your parents." A sad look spread across his face...I knew I crossed a line by asking that, "I'm sorry...you don't have to answer that question...I was just curious-", "No...it's okay. A couple months ago my parents passed away in a car accident, they were hit by a train." I could see that Sodapop was clearly upset...I felt bad about bringing up the whole subject, "I'm...I'm so sorry Sodapop...it must be very hard for you and your brothers", "Trust me it is. Darry is always yelling at Ponyboy because he's trying to keep him safe but Pony doesn't understand that, so they always try putting me in the middle of their fights...and it just gets stressful." I totally understand each word Sodapop was saying...it's not like I can say that I've went through what he's going through...but I understand he was in a tough situation. "I'm sorry that your in the middle. I'm also sorry for bringing up your parents...it was none of my business", "No it's totally okay...it's not your fault." We finished eating and paid, we started heading to Cherry's house. He walked me to the door, "I've had a great night Sodapop...thank you", "Of course...thanks for coming with me", "We should hang again sometime", "Okay..anytime." We we're looking into each other's eyes...we were moving closer and closer to each other, our lips were an inch away. Suddenly the door swung open causing me to turn my head which caused Sodapop to only kiss my cheek, Cherry stood there smiling evilly, "Well..I see your back from your date", "Uh yeah." I turned back to Sodapop, "Thanks again...will I see you again soon?", "Definitely." I smiled at him and he walked away, I rushed into the house and glared at Cherry, "CHERRY! You knew I was just about to kiss him, why'd you do that?", "Because I'm evil", "Hell right you are."

~Sodapop's point of view~

I got back to my house after dropping Scarlet off, I walked in and all my friends stared at me, "What's up guys? Why are y'all staring at me?." Two-Bit looked at me with his stupid sideburns, "Where have you been Soda?", "I was out...with a friend", "Who?", "someone." They all looked at me and I could tell in their faces they were trying to figure out who I was taking about, a second later Ponyboy piped up, "We're you out with that girl who's Cherry's cousin?", "Uh yeah...we went mini golfing." Everyone started making kissy faces and started teasing me except Dally, he looked at me with a cold stare. "Awee is Dally upset that he didn't take Scarlet out first?", "Listen here Curtis don't think your any better than me just because you got to her first....I'm gonna get to her second and everyone knows that first is the worst, second is the best."

Wow! My thumbs hurt from writing 🙃 welp I have one read...yay! I'm joking...I appreciate any reads I get...but I could care less...it's not about how many people read it...it's about you enjoying writing it.
