chapter seventeen

~Scarlet's point of view~

The next day. Today was a nice summer sunny day, my dad decided to let me go out during the day but not at night, it's bullshit...I can handle myself. Cherry and I had nothing to do today so we decided to walk around town, it was very hot with the sun shining down on us, "Cherry can we please get something to drink...I'm literally gonna die", "Uh yeah sure, the DX is up here...you can see your boyfriend!!", "He's not my boyfriend...besides your little crush works here too." She laughed and we continued walking to the DX, we got there and went inside. Inside all that was going on was music was playing on the radio and Steve and Soda were both singing...like a duet, it was hilarious...Cherry and I were trying not to laugh. The best part was they didn't even know we were here, so Cherry and I stood off to the side and continued to listen to them until the song was over, after that Cherry and I gave a round of applause for them, "Wow! Who know you two could sing?" I bet your gang would find that rather amusing." They both turned bright red and Cherry and I laughed, Sodapop couldn't even look directly at me, "Scarlet..you can't tell anyone about this", "Awe why not? I think everyone would love to here you sing", "Nobody can ever know about this." I just continued to laugh, Steve looked at Cherry, "Cherry please don't tell anyone", "Awe will Stevie be embarrassed?." I was literally dying laughing, after a few more moments Cherry and I relaxed, Soda looked at both of us, "Well I'm glad y'all got that out of your system", "Sorry if we interrupted your special singing with Steve", "It wasn't special singing." I'm sorry but this is probably the best thing that's ever happened, catching two teenage boys singing a love duet...it's pretty great. Cherry and I picked drinks out and went to the counter, Cherry tried to pay but Steve insisted that we didn't have to pay, he said they were on the house. Cherry and Steve went outside leaving me and Soda, "So what happened to you being grounded?", "Well my father decided that I could go out during the day but not at night...he says it's not safe", "He has a point", "I know...but I can take care of myself", "Not every single time, your lucky you didn't get raped the other night", "Your right...I am lucky." I stood there looking into his beautiful blue eyes, this guy was just perfect...but it's not like I can be with him. I friend zoned him and I don't live here, "Well I better get going", "Scarlet...before you go can I ask you something?", "Yeah what's up?", "I like you a lot, I know you said we should just be friends but I can't just be friends...I feel a connection between the two of us...I want to keep getting closer to you, would you maybe consider going on another date with me?", "You know I want too but I cant. You work during the day and I'm not aloud out at night", "What if you snuck out?", "Did that, got myself caught and grounded", "What if I promise you won't get caught", "Than i guess it's a date."

~Cherry's point of view~

I was outside with Steve talking while he washed a car, this guy was just so cute. He had the most pleasingly green eyes, they always sparkled. We were talking when he asked me something, "Cherry...do you like me?", "Of course I do!", "Than go on another date with me", "I will." He smiled at me and I immediately blushed...how did I not like Steve Randle many years before this?

Later that day...

Cherry and I were gossiping in her room when I decided to tell her about my date with Soda, "Cherry remember when you told me to friend zone Soda and Dally because I wasn't gonna be here for long?", "Uh yeah- wait a minute....your going out with Sodapop aren't you?", "Uh yeah...I just like him so much...besides it's not like we're dating", "How's that even gonna work? Your not aloud out at night", "Well I'm gonna sneak out tonight." She looked at me with her green emerald eyes shimmering in the light, "Scarlet...what about Dally? What if he sees you? He will think you friend zoned him just to be with Sodapop", "He's not gonna find out...it's gonna be fine", "If you say so."

I got ready and after Cherry left for her date with Steve, I snuck out the back door. I obviously had my little sister Rose covering for me and making sure my parents didn't find out. I met Soda a little ways from my aunts house, "Hey Scarlet!l", "Hi Soda...so what are we doing tonight?", "We're going to the county fair that's in town", "Oo sounds like fun!!!." We walked into town and eventually made it to the fair, it was filled with a bunch of activity's. Soda and I played so many games, we had a blast. We went over to this one area that was very crowded, apparently there was a kissing booth. So many people were paying to go up and kiss a blind folded person, Soda left to go get a drink. Suddenly a girl I recognized came over to me, it was Cherry's bestfriend Marcia, "Hey your scarlet right?", "Uh yeah", "Scarlet we need your help, we are short one person to be blind folded...would you mind helping us out?", "But I-." She interrupted me and grabbed my hand and brought me onto the platform, she put a blindfold around my eyes and sat me in a chair, she than announced, "Ladies and Gentleman! We have a new kisser ready....out of towner...Scarlet Holthouse!" People got into line and paid, I was terrified...I wasn't supposed to be kissing other people while on a date. A few minutes later the first person in line came closer to me, I just went along with what I was supposed to be doing just to help out Marcia. I kissed the stranger, it was a sweet tender kiss that I could recognize from anywhere...I took the blindfold off and it was Dallas Winston....I should have known.
