chapter fifteen

~Scarlet's point of view~

We all finished eating, than everyone decided they wanted to go shopping together...except Dally. He left like twenty minutes ago...said he had other plans...I'm not so sure I believe that.

~Dally's point of view~

Seeing Scarlet and Sodapop flirt made my blood boil, I don't understand what she sees in him...he's no different than anyone else. But if she likes him...than thats fine...I guess she can be the girl that got away.

~Scarlet's point of view~

We were all shopping for like ten minutes before everyone decided they wanted to go to different stores, Cherry and Steve wanted to go on the other side of the mall, Ponyboy and Rose wanted to go to the bookstore on the first floor and well....Soda and I could care less about where to go. They all ditched us and did there own thing, I was left there with Sodapop, "So..Soda...what do you want to do?", "I don't care", "Well I wanted to get a slushie..you wanna come with?", "Sure." We walked over to the slushie place and I decided to get a blue raspberry slushie and Soda got a Cherry one, we were walking around when he broke the comfortable silence, "So I see our siblings are into each other", "Yeah! Rose talks about Ponyboy nonstop", "That's the same thing with Ponyboy...all he talks about is Rose and California...he also said that Rose told him about your ex boyfriend Nick Goode." Of course he had to bring up Nick, "Yeah well Nick and I aren't a thing anymore", "How long did y'all go out?", "....two years...it was long enough." I went and sat down on a bench, Soda followed me, "Well what happened? Why did things end between you and Nick?", "He cheated on me with a girl named....Christine Berman. I mean I know why...she was this beautiful red head, she had these bright blue eyes, and wavy hair. No wonder he cheated", "He was stupid. Anyone that would cheat on a beautiful girl like you is just plain dumb." I smiled...Sodapop always knew how to make me feel better, "You really think I'm beautiful?", "Of course I do", "Well we both know I'm not as beautiful as your old girlfriend Sandy." I got up and started walking away but Sodapop got up and followed after me, "How did you know about Sandy?", "Your brother told my sister", "Listen...I might have loved Sandy...but I don't anymore...she cheated on me", "That's funny maybe she should be with Nick...after all they are a lot alike", "Tell me about it."

~Cherry's point of view~

Steve and I split off from the group and went shopping on our own, I just can't keep my eyes off of him. A lot of people will tell you that Steve Randle isn't eye catching...but to me he is. We were in a store when all of a sudden he turned to me, "Why do you talk to me?", "What do you mean Steve?", "I'm some dumb greaser...your a soc, why are you even talking to me?", "Just because I'm a soc don't mean nothing, I like you for who you are. Your funny, sweet, and a hero." He smiled at me, "So you wanna go out sometime?", "Definitely...how about tonight?", "Absolutely", "Okay...great." We kept walking around the store when he turned to me again, "Does Scarlet like Sodapop?", "I don't know...but it sure seems like it."

~Scarlet's point of view~

We all met back up at the front of the mall and headed out to the parking lot...than we all split ways, I looked over and saw Cherry sayin something to Steve, Ponyboy and Rose were saying goodbye and Sodapop and I awkwardly stood there. He is gorgeous...but I can't like him...it would never work, "Well I guess I will see you later Soda", "Yeah...I had fun with you today", "Me too." We all split ways and went off on our own. Cherry, Rose, and I were driving home when I looked at Cherry, "So spill it!!! Are you going out with Steve tonight?!?!", "Fine...yes I am", "Thats great!!! Where are y'all going?", "The movie theater", "Oooo romantic." She jokingly rolled her eyes at me and continued driving, all of a sudden Rose piped up from the back seat, "Scarlet...can you cover for me?", "Yeah..but for what?", "Well tonight I'm going to the drive in with Ponyboy", "That's great Rose- WAIT WHAT! Your going on a date?", "Yeah what's the problem?", "Well it's just...your so young." She looked at me with an annoyed expression on her face, "You do realize I'm fourteen right?", "Yeah it's just...dangerous out there", "Don't worry about me..I will be fine", "If you say so."

We finally got home, I went inside and upstairs. I laid on my bed for like two seconds and the next think I knew I was asleep.

I woke up to someone shouting my name..it was Cherry, "Cherry? What's going on?", "You need to get up and help me get ready for my date", "That's what you woke me up for?", "Uh yeah this is important", "so is my sleep...I wasn't asleep long enough", "Uh yes you were, five hours is plenty." I glanced at the clock and saw it was 6:00 pm, "I guess your right. So what are you gonna wear tonight?", "I have no idea", "Well this might take awhile."

Forty five minutes later. I helped Cherry pick out something to wear, I helped her do her hair, and than I helped her decide on how she should do her makeup. At around 7:00 the doorbell rang, I went downstairs and opened the door to see Steve, "Hey Steve", "Hey Scarlet", "Cherry's gonna be a minute, why don't you come inside." He stepped inside and I shut the door, we stood there for a few seconds before he spoke up, "Do you like Sodapop?", "No way...gross", "You like him", "What!!! No I don't", "Wow you like him a lot", "Steve I do not, get that through your head." He laughed, a few moments later Cherry came downstairs, "Okay you two have fun, and Steve get the thought out of your head that I like Soda...because I really don't", "You definitely do", "Steve!", "Okay fine...you definitely "don't"....". I rolled my eyes and they left, all that was left on my mind was...Soda.
