chapter nine

~Scarlet's point of view~

I pushed past my dad and stepped out into the bright summer sunlight, I started strolling through the soc side of town to the greaser side. I was really thirsty so I went into this little store, I chose a coke out of the freezer and turned to head towards the cash register. Suddenly I ran into someone, I looked up and realized it was Dally, "Wow Scarlet if you wanted to get this close to me you should have just asked." I laughed and gazed up at him, he had the hottest bad boy look ever, "It's funny that I ran into you Scarlet...I was gonna ask if you wanted to go to a party with me tonight." I thought back to what my dad said...he said I was going out to much, if I went out tonight he would freak. "I would love to go to a party with you...but my dad said I've been out to much this week...so he won't let me go out tonight", "Well how about you sneak out...", "I don't know....it's risky", "Will this help you make up your mind?." He leaned closer to me and planted his soft pink lips onto mine, I savored the feeling of our lips touching. "Okay fine, I will sneak out tonight", "Okay great..I will be waiting outside your aunt's house at like 9;00", "Okay...sounds great."

A few hours later..

After I spent most of my day walking around town aimlessly, I headed home. It was around 5:00 pm, my family made dinner and I had to sit at the boring table with the adults while my sister Rose was God knows where and while Cherry was with Bob. It was unreal, after dinner I went upstairs and just hung out in Cherry's room by myself...I basically went through her stuff the whole time. At around 8:30 I went downstairs to "say goodnight", I went into the living room and started my little white lie, "I'm gonna go to bed...goodnight y'all." My mom stood up and walked over to me, "honey are you feeling well?", "Uh yeah, I'm just a little tired", "Okay..yell if you need anything, I love you", "Love you too mom." She kissed my forehead and I went back upstairs. At exactly 9:00 I attempted my escape, I opened my window and down below I could see Dally, I whisper shouted to him, "Dally I don't think this is very safe", "Trust me you will be fine." I just went along, I threw my rope down and tied one half to something heavy in Cherry's room. I started climbing down and it was very nerve wracking, a few seconds later I swore I heard the rope break, "Dally! I swear I just heard the rope snap", "No you didn't...just keep climbing." I went down a little further and sure enough the rope snapped, I immediately started to fall but I didn't hit the ground. I opened my eyes and realized that Dally had caught me, "Dallas Winston you saved my life", "of course I did, I would never let you fall." I smiled at him and we were on our way to Buck Merrill's party. We showed up and holy shit...this party was rad, I was pretty excited...see back in California dad never lets me do anything fun...so let's just say this is my first party. We walked in and guy (who I was assuming it was Dally's friend) walked up to us, this guy was literally wearing a tank top with Mickey Mouse on it...I guess he really likes Mickey? The guy turned and looked at me and than back at Dally, "Hey Dal! Was this the girl you were talking about?",  "Yeah." The guy turned to me and shook my hand, "The names Two-Bit", "Uh hi...Two-Bit, I'm Scarlet Holthouse", "So I heard your here on summer vacation", "Yup, it's like an adventure being out of California." He laughed, "So uh Two-Bit...what's your real name?", "Two-Bit is my real name", "Bullshit", "Fine..it's Keith...Keith Mathew's", "That's a nice name...Keith." We talked for a few more minutes until Two-Bit decided he wanted a drink, he's a nice guy...super chill. A few minutes later Dally went to go get a drink, I was standing by myself when I looked over and saw Sodapop walk in with his younger brother Ponyboy. Out of all my luck of course he's here tonight, it's not that I don't like him...the problem is I do like him and Dally. He immediately saw me and came over, "Scarlet!! I didn't know you were coming to this party", "Uh yeah...I didn't know you were coming either", "Usually I don't come to these party's because they can get a little out of control", "I know what you mean." He realized that I was standing by myself, "So did you come with anyone?", "Well actually-." I was interrupted when Dally came back, "What the hell is this? I leave for a minute and your trying to make a move on my date Soda?", "Your date? Did you pay her to go out with you?." They started fighting and everyone at the party stopped and stared at us I walked away and went outside they both followed me. Sodapop grabbed one of my arms and Dally grabbed the other, "Scarlet wait", "Yeah..where do you think your going", "Away..you two shouldn't fight...it's not worth it." They both stated at me with cold expressions..Sodapop looked straight at me, "Scarlet..what do you mean it's not worth it?", "I mean...fighting about being with me. I don't know who paid the both of you to pretend to like me because...it's not fooling me." They both looked confused..Dally gave me his cold stare, "Scarlet..knowones paying us...we like you for who you are", "I'm just some nerd...there ain't anything special about me...nothing about me is special".
