chapter twenty-five

~Scarlet's point of view~

I woke up in Sodapop's arms, I suddenly realized that I didn't come home last night. I kissed Soda's cheek and went downstairs, I saw the clock in the kitchen and it read 2:30 am. Damn, I'm gonna be in so much trouble by my parents. I walked into the living room and Dally was lying on the couch watching tv, "Dally? What are you still doing up?", "Couldn't sleep", "Oh..", "What are you doing up?", "Oh I woke up and I realized that I didn't come home last night, my parents are gonna kill me", "They will get over it." Dally sat up and motioned for me to sit down next to him, so I did, "Dally...are you okay? I have no idea what got into Sodapop", "It was my fault, I shouldn't have said anything about his parents", "Don't blame yourself, it was my fault. I broke your heart..I'm so sorry. I just never should have even spoken to you or Sodapop", "Don't say that, when Sodapop started seeing you he became so much happier..I guess I was just so jealous", "I'm sorry that I used you..I had no idea that was my intention..I just really liked Sodapop." His baby brown eyes met with my emerald green eyes, "Don't worry about it Scarlet...it's not a big deal", "Are you sure?", "Yeah I'm positive." I was so grateful that Dally and I were okay again...I hope that he can be okay with Sodapop again, I decided to watch tv with Dally. After a little while my eyes slowly started to close.

I woke up to the sound of people snickering, I opened my eyes and saw Steve, Two-Bit, and Ponyboy sitting in the living room laughing at something. I suddenly realized I was snuggled up against Dally, he was still asleep. Steve looked at me while laughing, "So..what's going on?", "Uh I can explain, I woke up last night and came downstairs and I was talking to Dally..and I must have fallen asleep", "Ohh that makes sense", "I swear I'm not cheating on Soda", "Relax girl, we didn't think you were cheating..we just thought it was funny that you were cuddling with Dally", "You guys are so immature." I looked at the clock and saw it was 9:30am, "Guy's I gotta go", Two-Bit looked at me sadly, "Awe why?", "I didn't come home last night, my parents are gonna kill me", "What about Soda? Aren't you gonna say goodbye to him?", "I will see him later hopefully, besides he's sleeping." I said goodbye to everyone and headed for my aunts house, after a 15 minute brisk walk I finally made it home. I walked inside and my parents rushed over to the door, my dad was very angry, "SCARLET BEATRICE HOLTHOUSE! WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?", "Dad I'm sorry! I went to a friends house and I fell asleep", "What friend?", "Uhhh..", "What friend Scarlet?", "It wasn't a friend..it was my boyfriend Sodapop", "BOYFRIEND! YOU HAVE A BOYFRIEND?", "Yeah", "But you don't even know anyone here", "Yeah I do..", "Your done. We're going back to California." My heart stopped, "What? It's only the beginning of July...we still have the rest of this month and the rest of next month", "I don't care..I will not let you act like a slut", "How am I being a slut? I don't do anything slutty with Sodapop", "Your seeing a boy that you don't know. All he wants is to take advantage of you",  "You don't know that dad...in fact you don't know him at all", "I don't need to know him." I was beyond furious with my father, he just doesn't get me, "Scarlet go upstairs and pack your things right now", "But dad-", "Now Scarlet!." I ran upstairs and slammed Cherry's door...of course when I needed her most...she wasn't here.

I shoved all my things into my suitcase, I was balling my eyes out. I needed to see Sodapop and tell him that..I'm leaving and I'm probably never coming back. I snuck out my window now with no care in the world, I don't care if my parents find out that I snuck out...I just need to see him. I knew he was working so I headed to the DX station, I walked in and he looked at me with his beautiful smile, "Hey beautiful! I wish I could have seen you this morning", "Me too. How did you sleep last night?", "Good, but that's only because you were there", "Awe your sweet. Are you and Dally okay yet?", "Nah. He don't want nothing to do with me", "It's okay..he will get over it." Sodapop looked at me like he knew there was a reason I was here, "Sodapop, we need to talk", "What's up?", "Uh...well. UGH! Why is it so hard to talk to you?." He looked at me confused, "Scarlet..what's going on?", "Uh well..", "Talk to me", "I can't...", "Why not?", "Because I love- I mean like you..a lot." He smiled at me and I started to blush, "You love me?", "I know I haven't known you long..but I love you Sodapop. You make me so happy, I totally get if you don't feel the same way", "Are you crazy? I love you so much Scarlet...more than I have ever loved anyone else." I could feel my heart pounding excitedly..but it stopped once I knew I had to tell him why I was really here, "Sodapop...I'm going back to California", "That's nice Scarlet- YOUR WHAT????", "My parents are upset about me not coming home last night and once my dad found out that I was with you..he said we have to go back to California because supposedly I'm acting slutty." Sodapop looked at me shocked and hurt, "Your leaving?", "I don't want to...I tried to convince them but my dad is dead set on us leaving", "But you can't leave...I love you", "I love you so much...I promise I will never forget about you..ever. Once I'm 18 I will come back here and we will get right back from where we started from", "Scarlet..what if you find someone in Cali?", "That will never happen", "I can't trust that." He was starting to get a little upset, I put my hand around his waist, "Sodapop...I will come back to you", "I can't believe your leaving...I don't want you to", "I don't wanna go either..but when my dad says something is final...he means it."
