21. Betrayal

Mal pov:
There was a scream and I saw Skye and Sean running.
What was it this time?
Wynter was running too. Something was clearly wrong...
I looked around.
Everyone in the group was here except those three and... Zed and Addison.
"Oh no..." I muttered and I rushed to it too.
I saw Zed with blood on his hands and Addison was, clearly, dead on the floor.
Her skull was open and Zed had her brain in his hand.
"What have you done?" Skye said stunned and Zed said something in zombie-tongue to her.
"He's not wearing his Z-band at all!" Wynter said suddenly.
"What? Why would he take it off?" Sean asked and I looked around the area.
"Evertown. He's got Zed's Z-band!" I exclaimed.
Skye saw Evertown and raced after him.
"Sean, Mal, get Addison out of here. I'm keeping Zed busy. And trust me, none of us get hurt or anything." said Wynter and we (Sean and I) did as we were asked.

When we rejoined the rest, Wyatt and Eliza looked up in shock.
"What happened to her?" Eliza asked.
"Evertown has Zed's Z band. I'm guessing Addison wanted to help him but Zed lost control." Sean said, still stunned.
"One thing's for sure, she's dead..." Wyatt said softly.
Eliza took off Addison's necklace.
"That can go with the collection..." she said absently.
Harry and Uma already started a grave for Addison.
My hands were shaking a little but I ignored it.
Zed wouldn't do such a thing on his own anyway.
Evertown had his Z-band. He couldn't do anything about it himself.

Eliza pressed Addison's necklace into my hands and then walked over to Harry and Uma.
Wyatt brought Addison there and I swallowed.
"Wynter will make it, right?" I asked Sean.
"I hope she knows what she's doing."
"Let's go there again. Just in case Wynter could use some help."
"Just the two of us is too big of a risk. We need some of the others."
"You're right."
I walked over to Uma, Harry, Wyatt and Eliza.
"Guys. You four have to come. Wynter is now busy keeping Zed busy while Skye goes to get his Z-band back. I think Wynter could use some help..."
They nodded and we quickly walked over (after Addison was buried).

Wynter circled around Zed. Addison's brain was centered on the floor and I nearly threw up.
"Zed!" Skye's voice came out and he looked up.
Wynter pushed Zed to the ground and Skye quickly put his Z-band back on.
"Zed?" Skye said softly and anxiously.
Wynter got up again and the two helped Zed to his feet.
He looked at his hands in bewilderment.
"What have I done?" he asked confused and startled."
I walked over to them and handed him Addison's necklace.
"You killed Addison..."
"But Evertown stole your Z-band, so really there was nothing you could do about it..." Skye added.
Zed didn't seem to realize what had just been said. And that made sense. He had cracked open someone's skull and that brain was lying on the floor behind them...
Then I ran off to the bushes, I couldn't keep it in. It was too disgusting.

Zed pov:
And again I killed someone. This time Addison. How could I do that?!
I sat on my bed and Addison's necklace dangled between my hands.
Skye sat down next to me.
"Are you okay?"
"No... I killed Addison."
"It wasn't your fault. Evertown stole your Z-band."
"How did you get it back then?"
I look at Skye in surprise.
She sighed and looked at me.
"By begging."
"And that worked?"
"Surprisingly, yes. Evertown said I clearly cared too much about you and then he threw your Z-band at me."
I didn't know how to answer that and it was quiet.

"Put these with the other items..." I finally muttered.
Skye put Addison's necklace in her bag with the other items.
13 dead... There were now only 9 left.

After a while it seemed as if we heard Uma's voice.
"Guys! Sean is going crazy again!"
Skye and I ran into the hallway.
Sean was indeed looking at Uma with glowing red eyes.
Uma backed away and Sean grabbed her by the throat.
"Oh, I didn't think so." I said angrily, pushing him away from Uma, who fell to the ground as Sean let go of her.
"Dude, be yourself again! Don't let Evertown's serum win."
 Sean looked at me furiously and slowly his eyes turned brown again.
"Zed?"
"Yes me. You just lost your control too..."
Uma got up again and gave Sean a dirty look.
"And then you called me and the rest who are not of your world freaks. You yourself are the greatest here!" she said angrily.
"Guys, the new assignments are here." Wyatt said suddenly.
