28. Real quick, real bad

Mal pov:
The next morning we sat outside again. Everyone except Eliza. She just walked in with a serious face.
"New assignments... One for everyone..."
She gave everyone his/her envelope. I opened mine.
"Looks like I got my own death sentence."
"How so?" Harry asked in surprise.
"I have to come to Evertown."
"No way! He'll kill you!" Josh shouted.
"But if I don't go, I die too. So I don't have much choice."
"Are you going now?" Skye asked when I got up. I nodded.
"I can turn into a dragon if Evertown tries something but he won't win."
Before any of the others could say anything, I transformed and flew to Evertown.

"You wanted me here?" I said bluntly.
Evertown turned.
"Mal, you're here quick."
"Kill me then."
"That wasn't the plan."
"What are you talking about?"
"Now that you're here you can't protect your friends. Yesterday when you had your singing party I planted a bomb in the hotel."
"What?!"
"Say goodbye to those friends of yours."
"Noo!"
Evertown pressed a red button and there was an explosion.
"Nooo!!!" I screamed.
I transformed again and flew back to the others.

Zed pov:
Mal had just left and Skye was walking towards the lake. I looked at the others.
"So what are you assign-"
There was an explosion and everyone was blown away.

I slowly opened my eyes again and saw everyone else lying elsewhere.
Harry and Eliza seemed the worst affected by the explosion and I scrambled to my feet.
"Guys... is everyone okay?"
Josh got up too and Skye came running again.
I knelt next to Eliza.
"Are you okay?"
"No... idea..."
Mal flew in and she ran to Harry.
"Harry! Are you okay?"
"I'm sorry Mal..."
"Wa-"
Harry's eyes stared icy cold at Mal, who burst into tears.
Skye walked over to me and Eliza.
"Is she okay?"
"Take off my Z-band... My inner zombie needs one last roar." Eliza said and I looked at her. "No, you're not going to die Eliza..."
Skye put a hand on my shoulder and with her other hand she took Eliza's Z-band. Eliza growled softly and she fell silent too .

Moments later we had added Harry and Eliza to our cemetery. Harry's hook and Eliza's Z-band were added to the collection and Skye sighed.
"Now there are 18 items in my bag. We have lost 18 of our friends..."
I put my arms around her and she sobbed.

That night Josh and I were still sitting outside.
The girls had already gone inside.
"Josh, do you think we'll be the two Skye will have to choose who dies last?"
"Knowing Evertown? Yes, probably..."
"Then you must live. You're the only one who can go back with Skye. Otherwise she's all alone."
"Dude, do you hear what you're saying?"
"If Skye had to choose between us... I'll kill myself."
"Are you crazy?!"
"Skye needs you when you can get out of here. Promise me you'll never let her down."
Josh sighed.
"I promise..."
And we went in too .

Skye pov:
Another shitty day gone by.
The next morning Mal was again at Harry's grave. I walked over to her.
"Hey..."
She didn't answer and I tapped her on the shoulder. She fell over, she had slit her wrists and her eyes were staring at me whith an ice cold look.
"Oh my god, Mal!" I screamed.
Zed and Josh came running and I pressed my face against Zed, who wrapped his arms around me. Josh knelt next to Mal.
"She already slit her wrists last night. The blood is dry and she is freezing."
He took Mal's purple/gold bracelet and I put it in my bag. 19 dead... Wait, no!
And suddenly Evertown came up and I looked startled from Zed to Josh.
"No!"
Evertown chuckled.
"Yes!"

And suddenly I was standing on the edge of a volcano with the two boys next to me. Evertown was on the other side.
"Three left. Two survivors. Skye Hart."
I had tears in my eyes.
"No!"
"You have to."
Zed sighed and took my hand.
"Skye, you don't have to choose."
"What do you mean?"
"Josh and I have already done that."
"Wait, what?!"
Zed looked at Josh.
"You know what you promised."
Josh nodded.
"What are you up to?" I mumbled.
Zed kissed me on the cheek and pressed his Z-band into my hands.
"No..."
Zed got full of zombie and sighed.
"I'm doing this for you Skye." and he fell backwards into the lava.
"No!"
Josh stopped me before I jumped after Zed and I burst into tears.
"Skye... I'm so sorry..."
Evertown laughed viciously and suddenly we were back at the hotel.
All 20 items were in my bag and a portal appeared.
Josh looked up.
"A portal... We can get out of here..."
I looked at the portal and paused.
"No."
Josh looked at me in surprise.
"Huh?"
"No. I'm not leaving here."
I placed all 20 items in a circle around me and sat down in the middle.
"This world took everyone from us. I can't get out of here."
"But Skye, we can go home!"
"Home?! Is that what you call it?! How can it be a home without the people who should be around you?!"
Josh sighed and sat down next to me.
"You're right..."

Evertown pov:
So those two didn't want to leave. Bunch of jerks! I went to them but to my surprise each item of their circle started to glow one by one.
"What...?"
"Skye, are you sure you don't want to go?" Josh asked again.
"No. I'm not leaving the rest behind!" Skye said irritatingly enough.
I made the portal disappear and all of a sudden those glowing items became a kind of tube around the two.
