Chapter Forty Two

Gracie's race day

Maya POV:
"How you feeling?" I asked Gracie joining her in the kitchen, "nervous" she replied fiddling with her hands. "Hey you don't need to be, it's your first race and no matter how well you do me and Carina will be proud of you okay?" I asked her, "yeh" she replied unconvincingly but I decided to leave it. "Hi bambina you ready for the big day?" Carina asked coming into the kitchen with Harper on her hip, "si, sono emozionato ma nervoso" she said, "uh english please?" I asked her not having a clue what she said, "I said I'm excited but nervous" Gracie clarified. "You know Bella you should start learning italian" Carina laughed earning an eye roll from me. "Okay so I'll take Gracie down now so she's prepared and then your coming down afterwards yes?" I asked Carina, "si bella" she said taking a bite of her French toast, "okay you ready sweetheart?" I asked Gracie, "yep let's go".
.........(still Maya POV)
About 5 minutes later we arrived at the track.
"Okay so here's the day plan, there's a 500m and 100m race. Thoughts?" I asked her not knowing what she'd want to do. "Ill do both" she said nonchalantly tying her lace. "Okay you need to warm up so go and do a lap, make sure it's only a light jog and stretch" I told her, "okay" she said before running off. I pulled out my phone and phoned Carina.

M- "hey baby the race starts at 12 so make sure your here by then okay?"

C- "of course, I wouldn't miss it for the world. How does she seem?"

M- "hard to tell. There's barley anyone here yet so she seems okay, I'll keep you updated though"

C- "okay we won't be long bella, see you later"

Gracie POV:
I'd finished my lap and went back over to maya. "Have you stretched?" She asked me warningly, "uhh yes?" I replied, "are you asking me or telling me" she joked, "fine I haven't" i admitted. "Let's go on the grass then" she said walking away and I followed. We both sat on the grass while I stretched and I could see more people coming in, "you okay?" Maya asked snapping me out of my overthinking. "Hm? Oh right yeh. There's just more people than I expected" I told her, "don't get worked up sunshine, you will be great" she said kissing my forehead before standing up.

Carina POV:
"Harper you ready?" I asked as we were about to leave, "when do I get to do a sport?" She asked me, "whenever you want bambina, you think about what you want to do and tell me or mommy okay?" I told her. "Si okay, im ready" she said lifting her arms up in the sky. "You know your getting too big for me to carry you everywhere bambina" I told her, "pleaseeee?" She begged with puppy eyes which I couldn't refuse, "okay come on then" I said lifting her up. A few minutes later we arrived at the track. "Can you see mommy or Gracie bambina?" I asked her looking around, "look! Over there!" She said pointing to a patch of grass, "ah si, good eye bambina" I said before walking over to them.

Gracie POV:
"Mom look!" I said when I spotted Carina and Harper walking over to us. "Hi bellas" Carina said from the distance. "Hi mama" I said going over and hugging her and then taking Harper onto my hip. "Hi sissy" she said cuddling into my side. "You okay?" I asked her, "si mama said I can do sport when I want" she said happily, "ohh really?" I asked her, "si si" she repeated. "Sunshine your race is going to start soon we should go" Maya said to me instantly making me nervous which I tried not showing, "oh uh okay" I said handing Harper back over to Carina. "We'll go watch in the stands, good look bambina" Carina said kissing my forehead, "thanks mama".

Maya POV:
Gracie's race got called and I could see her nerves increasing. "Hey no matter what the outcome is today I'll be proud of you. Just try your best okay?" I asked cupping her checks in my hands. "Okay" she smiled softly. "You got this baby, now go kick some ass" I winked as she took her mark. "Get ready... set...go!" And the gun blew in the air.

Gracie POV:
The shot fired and I ran as fast as I could. It was the 500m so I knew I'd be running for a bit longer but I knew I could keep a pace. I could her maya, Carina and Harper all cheering for me. I passed a few girls but there was still two infront of me, I tried pumping even harder but I didn't have enough energy to beat them and I eventually crossed the finish line in 3rd. I know 3rd is good but I couldn't help being mad at myself. As I bent over to regain my breathe I felt Mayas hand touch my shoulder and I stepped away. "You okay sweetheart?" She asked me, "just go away I need a minute" I told her. She stepped away and after a few minutes i pulled myself back together. I walked over to them all not making eye contact to any of them, "why are you upset bambina we are so proud of you!" Carina told me, "I could've done better" i admitted, "hey stop that sunshine, you did amazing. Especially as that race isn't one you've been practicing, you did so good baby" Maya said lifting my head up. "You still up for doing the 100m?" Maya asked me. "Yeh I guess" I mumble, "Hm?" Maya asked, "yeh I guess" I repeated louder. "Sorry?" Maya I asked a smile growing on my face, "yes!" I shouted rolling my eyes and feeling a grin creep onto my face. "Believe in yourself" she said nudging me when they called my second race. I set myself up and the gun blasted. I sprinted for the life of me so hard I felt like I was going to fall over my own feet. I quickly crossed the finish line so caught up in pumping my arms that I didn't even realise I had won until I looked to my sides and nobody was around. I turned back to the stands and Carina and Harper were screaming and cheering for me and I felt Maya lift me up and spin me around, "you did it!" Maya said placing me back down. "I'm so proud of you" she said hugging me tightly.

Maya POV:
After the awards where Gracie won a medal and trophy we were packing up are stuff and we're all about to leave when I heard a familiar voice behind me.

"Hey kiddo"
