When Mirabel woke up tucked in and glasses on the side table, she realized in shame that someone had found her and seen how weak she truly was. If the magic did fade her family wouldn't know what to do. Just as she was so weakly dependent on them, they were unknowingly dependent on their gifts. Without those gifts they would need protection and if anyone was to protect them, she would. Casita showed her that it was only 5 am and she knew everyone would be sleeping in after a long night of celebration. So as they slept she snuck off to the library.

Mirabel spent several hours there to the librarians surprise and if she hadn't packed food she would have had to return for lunch. But come dinner time, she checked several additional books out along with the once's she had begun to read and made her way home. But when she got home, Abuela was not happy to see her.

"Where have you been Mirabel? First you ruin Antonio's night and then you sneak off for a whole day! We had no idea where you were or what trouble you were up to!" Her Abuela's voice rose in anger and alerted the whole family to her return and gathered around as she tried once again to not cry. "What do you mean I ruined his night!? All I did was go to bed early because I was tired?" "Last night meant a lot to him and because you weren't there to dance with him, you made him cry!" At this point Mirabel could not keep the tears from falling bad she saw her family watching, not knowing how to respond. Not wanting to see Mira cry because of him, Antonio runs over and hugs her waist.

"It's not your fault Mirabel, I understand you were tired. I was just upset I didn't get to dance with you is all! Please don't cry!"  Mirabel ducked down to let him wipe her tears away. As she tries to recollect herself, the rest of her family began to argue with Abuela telling her to be easier on her and that she did nothing wrong. Their actions bring a smile to her face as Antonio takes her hands and leads her upstairs to his room. The two dance the sadness away and replace it with laughter until Antonio wears himself out and Mirabel returns to her room.

Later that night, she sneaks food, having skipped dinner and rushes back to her room to read her many new books. As she munches on dinner and flips through many pages, Dolores is able to sleep well knowing her cousin was happy for a night.
