Sitting silently, the hum of bullhead's engines is all that can be heard, apart from Elm's very noticeable snoring. You take out your scroll and call Winter.

I hope she's awake.

It rings out for a few seconds, before being answered.

Winter- Cole. How are you? Are you feeling better?

Cole- I'm better, thanks. How are things on your end?

Winter- Back to a state of normality. Where are you? I hear engines.

Cole- I'm in a bullhead. With the Ace Ops. James gave me one last mission before I come back to the Seventh Dawn.

She sighs, seemingly frustrated.

Winter- He keeps asking you to put yourself at risk. You're safest with me on the station.

Cole- It's fine, Winter. This one shouldn't involve any fighting.

Winter- You don't know that. What if Ozpin sends troops to ambush you? Ace Ops or not, you're not safe outside of Atlas territory.

Cole- He wouldn't risk that. We're headed to Menagerie. To talk with the island leader before Ozpin's man does.

Winter- I just don't want you getting hurt.

You think for a moment, before taking a deep breath.

Cole- Why?

Winter- What?

Cole- Why don't you want me getting hurt? I'm not under your watch at the moment. I'm not part of your standing orders.

Winter- Well, I... you're the future of Atlas, why would I want you to ever be in danger?

You feel disappointed by her answer.

Cole- Oh. Right, yeah, that.

Winter- Are you feeling okay?

Cole- I just... really miss you, is all. I feel like you're my closest friend at the moment. You've cared about me the most next to James.

Winter- O-oh.

Feeling your face heat up with embarrassment, you cringe at your own statement.

Cole- I'm sorry. That was inappropriate and unnecessary.

Winter- No. You're right. I do care. Because you don't deserve to be alone or in pain or confusion. I don't want you to feel like I'm just another officer. I'm happy that you see me as a close friend. Because I do too.

Cole- I-

Winter- I'm sorry, I have to go now, Cole. But please be safe, and... don't get hurt. Promise me.

Cole- I promise I won't. Bye, Winter.

Winter- Bye Cole.

She hangs up, and you put the scroll back in your pocket.

Clover- That was the Lieutenant's voice for sure. But the way she was talking was one I've never heard from her.

You perk up and look at Clover, who has his eyes closed and his arms crossed, leaning against the corner of the hold.

Cole- You heard everything?

Clover- Most of it. You two are really close. It's sweet.

Cole- She's taken care of me as much as James has.
