Why?

.

.

.

Why am I treated this way?

You think that to yourself once more as you hide away in your bedroom.

I have done NOTHING!

You feel the sting of tears in your eyes, and jolt as you hear the laughter of your parents and siblings downstairs.

For once, I wish they just left me alone.

You climb into your bed and groan in pain. The sting of the recent beatings making itself known once more.

I wish I was like them.

You look out of your window, and up at the starry sky. Patch has some of the most beautiful views.

I wish I was free like the stars.

You cower in the corner as you hear someone coming upstairs.

Summer- Oh Cole~

You close your eyes as the door opens.

Time skip -- Seven years

Cole- To conclude, the gravitational field of a Neutron Star is nearly two billion times stronger than a normal star. So proper analysis on these phenomena will be forever impossible. Thank you.

The class claps, and you step off the small stage and sit down.

Professor- Thank you, Mister Rose. Your presentation was very well put together.

You smile.

I put so much effort into that for "very well put together"?

You keep smiling.

Cole- Thank you, professor.

Class end

You're packing up your books and laptop, when you hear laughter.

Oh great.

You turn around to face team RWBY.

Cole- Hello, sisters. Come to mock me for choosing actually relevant subjects?

Yang- Harsh.

Blake- Mock? Who's been mocking you?

Cole- Ugh. Nevermind.

You go to walk past them, but Yang grabs your arm and smirks mischievously.

Yang- We should hang out together. Just the three of us. A family catch-up, huh?

Cole- Uh...

You pull your arm away.

Cole- Perhaps another time, Yang. I have more important things to do.

You feel her and Ruby staring at you as you walk out.

Emerald- Hey! Cole!

You sigh in relief.

Rescue. Thank the gods.

Your friend, Emerald Sustrai, jogs over with Mercury Black.

Cole- Em, Merc. What's up?

Emerald- Just wondering if you wanna hang out with us? We're going to go train.

Cole- Nah. Sorry, guys. I have too much homework to do.

Mercury- Seriously, dude? You came to Beacon Academy to be a huntsman, right?

Cole- Correction. I came here because it has the classes that I want. University would have been ideal, but-

Mercury/Emerald- It's too expensive?

Cole- Uh huh.

Emerald- Oh well. In case you're wondering, Cinder's in the library, studying.

Cole- Oh, cool. Thanks, guys. Bye.

Mercury- See ya, bro.

They walk off, and you glance over your shoulder and see Yang and Ruby there, grinning.

Ruby- Cole~

You walk off quickly towards the library.

Cinder PoV

You're bored.

Very bored.

Pretending to study is probably one of the most boring things you have ever done.

But it's better than working with that idiot Roman all day. Ugh.

You look up from the textbook you're "reviewing" and spot Cole Rose. He looks over at you and gives a nervous grin.

The poor man.

You gesture to the seat beside you, and he hurriedly walks over and sits down.

Cole- Thanks, Cinder.

Cinder- They're following you again?

He nods.

Cinder- Well, I grant you safe haven here.

He chuckles, and takes out his books and laptop. His kind smile quickly fades.

Cole- The class thought my presentation was pointless and unimaginative. The professor, too.

Cinder- What was your presentation about?

Cole- Neutron Stars and their effects on surrounding nebulae... Or, simply put, stars and what they do to clouds of gas and plasma.

Cinder- Ah. I see.

Such a clever mind, yet so fragile a body.

Cole- Anyways, I thought I might be safe here. The girls find you kind of menacing.

Cinder- Oh? Is that so?

He nods, and you give a chuckle.

Cinder- Well then. Consider yourself under my protection for now.

Cole- Thanks, Cind.
