Chapter 13 Underdog Life

Once 3 minutes has passed, Nesby opened the lid and the noodles were cooked as she took the plastic fork that was provided with the noodles.

Meanwhile, Kasumi took her chopsticks and start eating the fried rice that she bought for her dinner. Kasumi was surprised to see Nesby using a fork to eat.

"Wait, you don't use chopsticks?" Kasumi asked out of curiosity.

"No, I am bad at them,"

"Hold on, you're from a Chinese family?"

"Half Chinese I would say, my mother, is Chinese, so that's why I don't use the chopsticks that often,"

"Your father's not Chinese?"

"Nope, he is Canadian. Also, I feel you shouldn't say that I am Chinese immediately just by my actions, that's a little bit..."

"Oh, I'm sorry, but still, you rarely use chopsticks at home?"

"Nope, since they didn't teach me that,"

"Oh," Kasumi continued eating her fried rice after knowing that Nesby doesn't know how to use the chopsticks. Then, she puts it down while she heads to the kitchen to get something.

After a while, she took out another pair of chopsticks and put it beside Nesby. Nesby looked at Kasumi, totally confused at what she had just done.

"What did you just put beside me?" Nesby asked.

"Nothing much, just a set of chopsticks,"

"What on earth?"

"I knew you are going to react like that, but in the end, you can still use your old trusty fork to eat if you don't want to use chopsticks,"

"Fine then, also how are you going to eat with your mask on?"

After hearing that question, Kasumi startled for a while before giving Nesby a simple answer:" Well, I open my mask, put my food into my mouth and put it back,"

"I don't want people to know my looks,"

"Well, ok then,"

Then, Nesby took the pair of chopsticks that was just beside her cup and started using it. At first, she finds it difficult to get anything with the chopsticks, but she manages to cross the chopsticks and got her first item in the cup.

After dinner, Nesby and Kasumi cleaned up the table and wiped the table that has full of bits and soup. Right after that, Kasumi took out a garbage bag that was already tied up and told Nesby to dump the rubbish bag at the nearest garbage bin.

"Wait, there isn't one outside?"

"Nope, I will have to dump it at a nearby garbage bin every day. Garbage trucks don't come to my area because it was unknown by many people,"

"Ohh, I think I should be fine for me to dump it out,"

"Okay, I will leave the job for you," Kasumi puts the full garbage bag right next to the door so Nesby doesn't forget.

Nesby puts down her phone and headed to the door to wear her shoes before heading out to dump out the rubbish bag. The moment she opened the door, she noticed the unusually cold weather and hopes that she is able to come home safely before anything happens to her.

While walking in the streets, Nesby looked around the streets, only for her to see a pair of mother and son sitting face to face with each other. Through the window, she sees the mother and the son were having fun with each other.

This scene made Nesby nostalgic of all the things she did with her family before disaster struck. She squeezed her lips, trying not to get any emotions from the scene she witnessed and left.

After dumping the garbage bag into the bin, she walked home while enjoying the cold weather that she never experienced before. Recalling years ago, her mother and father will bring her out and enjoy the scenery while having a walk at a nearby park.

The memories are slowly floating back as Nesby slowly closed her eyes while feeling the warmth again. She missed the warmth and wanted to experience it again, but judging by the situation she is in, her dreams were broken.

Right after she got home, Kasumi saw her and asked: "Did you find the rubbish bin?"

"Yea," Nesby's answer sounds weaker, making Kasumi question herself if Nesby was tired.

"Go get some rest afterwards, I can roughly tell that you are tired judging by your voice,"

"Oh yeah right, after what had happened this whole day, a sleep will help,"

After taking off her shoes and washing her hands, she headed to the washroom and prepare herself to sleep. Once she is done brushing her teeth, Nesby headed to her bed, prepare to sleep and end the day.

Right after she lay down, Nesby played with her phone but was quickly found out by Kasumi.

With no choice, Nesby can only turn off her phone to sleep. As time flies, Nesby is slowly getting used to the underdog conditions she was surviving.
