Zia

Zia woke up before her alarm was set to go off, today was her first day at her very first job. She was extremely nervous. She got out of bed and grabbed the outfit that she laid out the previous night, before walking across the hall to the bathroom. She took a quick shower, getting dressed and doing her hair, before going downstairs to make herself breakfast. She wasn't sure what the day was going to look like, so she didn't want to start on an empty stomach.

"Good morning Zia," Harry said as Zia entered the kitchen.

Zia jumped not expecting anyone else to be awake. "Good morning. What are you doing up so early?"

"Someone has to take you to work." Harry continued reading the newspaper in front of him, only looking up for a second.

"I'm perfectly capable of driving myself." Zia walked further into the kitchen, to the pantry to grab out a packet of oatmeal.

"Until you buy yourself a car, I will take you to and pick you up from work. If that's an issue you can find somewhere else to live."

"Did you take classes from Liam? On how to always be a dick." Zia questioned as she grabbed out the milk.

"I said what I said Zia, if you don't like it find a solution."

"I gladly will." Zia grabbed her bowl of prepared oatmeal and went back to her bedroom.

Once she had finished her breakfast, she went to brush her teeth and grabbed everything she needed for the day, before going to put her bowl in the kitchen sink.

"You ready to go?" Harry asked as Zia stood at the door putting her shoes on.

"Yes."

The two of them walked into the garage to Harry's Escalade, Zia getting into the passenger seat as soon as the doors were unlocked. She loudly closed the door behind her, disliking that her uncle is acting just like Liam.

"You're acting real bold for someone that's getting a ride to work," Harry said as he got into the drivers seat.

"I didn't ask you to take me to work. You made it a requirement for some fucked reason. Your attitude towards me is unnecessary, I don't remember asking for it," Zia responded as she sat back against the seat.

"Seatbelt." Is all Harry said as he began driving.

Zia brought up her gps, so her uncle knew where he needed to go. An agonizing forty-five minutes later, Zia was standing in front of the tall gray building.

Here goes nothing Zia thought as she walked through the revolving doors. She felt out of place as she walked up to the receptionist's desk.

"Can I help you sweetie?" The little old lady, with a genuine smile, sitting behind the desk asked.

"Hi, I I'm Zia, Mr. Smith's new assistant," Zia said shyly.

"And what is your last name Zia?"

"Malik."

The click-clacking of the keyboard resumed for a little bit before the receptionist stood up.

"Please follow me Zia."

The two of them walked side by side down a hallway.

"My name is Brenda, it's nice to meet you Zia," the receptionist, now known as Brenda, introduced herself. "These elevators right here are employee only. So until we get you a badge you will have to use the regular elevators. Which is in the middle of the lobby, we will use those ones for now," Brenda explained as they walked to the regular elevators for anyone to use.

"When do I get an employee badge?" Zia asked as she and Brenda walked into an empty elevator.

"Should be by the end of day today, we will see what Mr. Smith says. His floor is third from the top. The top floor is dedicated to security, just like the very first floor is, and the floor right below the top floor is for meetings," Brenda explained as they shot up to the 58th floor.

"I assumed he'd be at the top floor like bosses usually are," Zia stated.

"Nope, he knows that security is more important than being on the top floor."

"Why does he have security on the top floor and the first floor?" Zia questioned as the elevator doors opened.

"It's simple actually, if I were to need security right now the security guards on the top floor would be here quicker than those on the first floor. Same reason for if any of the lower levels needed security, they'd get a quicker response from the security team on the first floor than those on the top floor," Mr. Smith responded for Brenda.

"Oh, I never thought of it like that." Zia said after a moment of just staring at her boss, she wasn't expecting to see him quite yet.

"Not many people do, I think it was one of the smarter decisions he has ever made." Brenda commented.

"Alright, alright mom. Let me have my assistant, thank you for bringing her up here."

"Not a problem dear. Now don't scare this one off," Brenda said as the elevator doors closed and down she went.

"Good morning Zia," Mr. Smith greeted.

"Good morning sir," Zia responded quietly, feeling very small in front of her boss.

"Usually I'd expect to be given a cup of coffee and be told what I have on the agenda today. But since it's your first day, you'll just follow me around today. Make note of everything I tell you, everything I say is important." Mr. Smith started walking away as he was talking to Zia.
Zia quickly followed behind him as there day has officially started.
