Dawn, then dusk, life feels like a bane
All I do goes down the drain
All I do is all in vain
I see nothing to gain
This is my domain
Where darkness reigns
Light? He was slain
Don't you see the bloodstains?
Now I'm tied up in chains
In the middle of an empty lane
As the freezing rain
Patters on cracked windowpanes
Perhaps it's inhumane
But I'm used to the pain
Under the moon that wanes
Only darkness flows in my veins
But I've learned to contain
Just jokingly complain
My smiles, they're feigned
All facades that I maintain
But I'm slowly going insane
Knowing that I will never attain
Joy, and if I do, it won't sustain
For darkness flows in my veins

This poem was a literary challenge I set for myself. I've always wanted to write a 5-6 stanza monorhyme poem, but I was sure I could never find so many rhymes and also add meaning. But after a little experimenting, here we are! I think of 'Joy as more of a state of mind than an emotion. When your life comes together, you are satisfied with your present, accepting of your past, and are happy when you think of the future, you have 'Joy'.
