Spencer used to lie and say it wasn't true when people said Olivia had his heart in a vice grip. He used to attempt to convince people that he and Liv were two people who loved each other but could totally function without each other if they needed to. He now realized he was wrong. Liv had been in New York for 9 days now and Spencer wasn't sleeping well, kept misplacing his keys, and for some reason, continuously called Olivia for any and all inconveniences. Knowing that Olivia had another five days before she came home, Spencer sighed as he laid on the couch, wishing that he could be with the woman he loved more than anything.
Since it was his off season, Spencer didn't have practice every morning, he just made sure to keep up with his conditioning like he did any other year that he was playing football. With Olivia across the country, he had lots of free time. He'd had dinner with his mom, Dillon, and D'Angelo twice since Liv had been away, he'd gone to lunch with Billy and Laura, he'd made too many trips to the store for random items, and he even met up with Chris to workout twice. He was running out of things to do to keep himself busy and he didn't want to distract Olivia from what she was doing in New York. Liv had only gone out there to attend an invitation only workshop for journalists. This wasn't some random trip that he could have tagged along on, this was a huge moment in her career and as the supportive husband that he was, he knew that Olivia needed his support.
Spencer's phone buzzed on the table, and he quickly glanced at the screen before answering the incoming FaceTime.
"What's up boy! Why do you look like someone kicked your puppy?" Coop asked her best friend.
"Just tired. I haven't been sleeping great with Liv gone." Spencer said as he yawned. "I'm used to her being here at home and me being gone."
"Man, just say that you miss your wife! You two have been together so long that it doesn't surprise me that you can't sleep without her next to you."
"I can sleep, just not well." Spencer attempted to defend himself, but Coop ignored him.
"The better question is why are you still sitting at home in California? It's your off season, you don't have to be miserable. You could fly to New York and be with Liv." Coop said with a hint of confusion in her voice.
"This is a really important trip for her, and I don't want to distract her from that. She's been working so hard, and she always finds time to support me, I just want to do my part as her husband." Spencer explained.
"Spence, Liv hasn't been able to sleep without you since college, what makes you think she's been sleeping these past few days? She loves you, she's not going to think you're a distraction, if anything, she'll be happy you came."
Spencer glanced at the watch he had on to see what time it was, 2:30 PM. If he got on a 4 PM flight, he'd make it to New York by 9 PM. He could actually pull this off, but he'd have to leave right now.
"Coop, I love you. You're right, I'm going to New York." Spencer said, laughing as he jogged up the stairs to quickly pack a suitcase for the next five days.
"I love you too, dummy. Give Liv a hug for me." Coop said as she hung up the call.
Spencer rushed to LAX as fast as he could, not trying to miss his last-minute flight. He quickly walked up to the counter to check his bags, trying to be both fast and discreet. He handed over his ID and boarding pass, knowing that he was about to get asked for an autograph or a picture.
"Mr. James I'm a huge fan." The woman working the counter said as she weighed and tagged his bag. "There's an open seat in first class that will allow you to have a bit more privacy. We normally keep it blocked off in case we have someone that needs an upgrade and I'm thinking that person is you."
