Thought I'd write something based around something mentioned in an earlier shot, there is definitely a reason why Spencer hates the guest room, enjoy!
He'd been tossing and turning for what felt like hours. The mattress in this room wasn't as comfortable as his bed, he was used to memory foam, and this definitely wasn't the same. His bed had the perfect pillows, not too firm, not too soft, he felt like he was sleeping on a cotton ball. Most importantly, his bed had his wife in it. The guest room only had him, and he couldn't sleep without Olivia, especially when she was right down the hall from him. He knew that he'd earned his vacation in the guest room tonight, he was just hoping that she'd miss him enough to change her mind and let him back into their bed.
Spencer had mentioned to Olivia that he'd been experiencing some discomfort in his shoulder, not enough to take him out for the rest of the season, but enough for his wife to insist that he speak to his team's doctor and have him take a look at it. Spencer promised Liv that he'd get it treated and take it easy at practice, and he really had meant to get it looked at, but the week flew by and before he knew it, game day was upon them, and he had to play with the shoulder pain.
He managed to play majority of the game without any issues but late into the fourth quarter, Spencer caught a pass and landed on the shoulder that was giving him problems. He was able to stand up and walk it off but one look towards the box that his family was seated in told him Liv and seen it all and she wasn't pleased.
The game came to an end and Spencer made his way to the sidelines to greet his family. Olivia stood to the side, normally the first person to hug and kiss Spencer after a game, she allowed Ms. Grace to take that spot. She couldn't believe he'd be so careless with his health; this was bigger than wanting to play a football game and Spencer needed to understand that.
Billy and Laura hugged and congratulated their son-in-law on his win before handing SJ over to his father. Dillon shook his head at his brother, he'd clearly upset Liv and as the incredible brother-in-law that he was, he was on Liv's side.
Spencer made his way to his wife, cautious of what her response or reaction was going to be. She allowed him to pull her into his chest and even let him place a quick kiss to her lips. Spencer relaxed, clearly, he overestimated how upset she would be.
Hours later when it was time to retire for the night, Spencer tucked SJ into bed and headed down the hall towards his bedroom, only to find the door locked.
"Liv?" Spencer called in confusion. "Are you in there? The door is locked."
Spencer could hear the sound music on the other side of the door, a sign that his wife was in the room, and knocked a little harder to see if she could hear him over the music.
The door slowly opened, and Olivia used her body to block the entry point.
"Can I help you Mr. James?"
Spencer ran his eyes up her long legs, finally meeting her eyes and flashing her a smile.
"The door was locked; I was coming to get ready for bed." Spencer mumbled, taking a step closer to his wife only to be kept at a distance.
"How's your shoulder? Still sore?" Liv asked, ignoring his lust filled gaze.
"Just a little bit, nothing I can't handle." Spencer said as he attempted to step into the room only to be presented with his pillow.
"When I asked you last week to get it checked out you promised me you would. That never happened, did it? You landed on it during the game today, I could see it all over your face. You need to take better care of your body Spencer, and I'm going to help you do it. Your sleeping in the guest room until you go see a doctor. Good night." Olivia said before closing and locking the door again, leaving no room for explanations from Spencer.
----
That's how he ended up here, stuck in the guest room, suffering while his wife slept like an angel down the hall. He knew that Olivia was only looking out for him, that's what made it so hard to be upset, he knew that if he would have talked to the team doctor like he said he would, he'd be in bed with his wife, cuddled up against her while she soothed his sore body, instead of this.
He continued to pout as he ran through all the ways he could show Liv that he was remorseful, only broken from his thoughts when the door creaked, someone was coming inside the room. He rolled onto his back, grinning and then hiding his smile when he saw that Liv had made her way to him.
"I'm still very disappointed in you, and I still expect you to see a doctor about that shoulder pain." Liv said as she stood in the doorway, refusing to make eye contact and playing with the edge of the t shirt she had on. "But I keep thinking that you're already in pain and this bed won't help you. So, if you promise to go see a doctor, and I mean you better make sure you go, you can come back to bed."
Spencer grabbed his pillow and moved quickly towards the door, the last thing he wanted was for Olivia to change her mind and he end up stuck here in the guest room. He wrapped his arm around her, squeezing her against his chest, before leading her towards their room. They slipped into bed, both more than ready to get some actual sleep, but not before Spencer could set a reminder on his phone, "Call doc about shoulder". He knew not to rock the boat when it came to his wife, he placed his phone on the night stand and proceeded to wrap his arms around Olivia, finally able to sleep.
