Olivia paced back and forth in the bathroom waiting for the timer on her phone to go off while mumbling to herself.
"We said we'd wait a few years before we had kids." Liv mumbled, running her hands through her curly hair. "If this test says positive, I'm going to kill Spencer."
Olivia jumped, hearing her alarm blare out on her phone, and rushed to grab the pregnancy tests that were on the counter.
Positive.
Positive.
Positive.
All three tests telling her what she already knew to be true, she was expecting her first child. Tears ran down her face as she stood frozen in place, as she quickly grabbed all three tests and stumbled toward her bedroom.
"Well? What did they say?!" Simone asked.
Liv's silence told her everything she needed to know; she was going to be an aunt.
"How are you feeling about this? I know you and Spence wanted to wait a few more years before having the football team he always dreamed of."
"I'm in shock. Obviously, I want to have babies with Spencer, I just didn't think we'd be having them so soon after getting married."
Simone rubbed her back in comfort, knowing firsthand that finding out you're pregnant is a shocking experience.
"Let's call and make an appointment with your doctor and go from there." Simone encouraged, knowing that her sister-in-law was driving herself crazy internally.
With Spencer and Jordan on the road, Liv had a few more days before she came face to face with her husband, and she needed to get a grip on things before he called her this evening.
Fortunately, Olivia's doctor had an opening and could see her the day of so Simone rallied and got her to that appointment.
Liv sat in the waiting room bouncing her knee, radiating pure anxiety.
"Liv please try and relax." Simone whispered. "I know you're scared but we can't panic or plan until we know for sure that you're pregnant."
Before Liv could respond, her name was called, and she and Simone were led down the hallway to a room. Liv's doctor coming in was the only thing that broke the silence.
"Hello ladies. What brings you in today?" Doctor Shaw had been Olivia's doctor since she was 15, so she knew by the look on Olivia's face that she was scared.
Olivia took a deep breath and laid the tests onto the counter in front of her doctor.
"I see. Well let's go ahead and schedule a blood draw for you and see if we have a positive test on our hands." Doctor Shaw gently held Liv's hand, making eye contact with her before speaking. "Olivia, try and keep calm. We need definitive answers before we can freak out."
Simone watched as Olivia attempted to calm herself down and failed to be successful.
"Liv, do you want to call Nurse Joy?" Simone gently asked.
Olivia's entire demeanor changed as she pulled out her cell phone and called her sponsor. Nurse Joy was fortunately at work and made her way to Liv in a matter of minutes. She took a seat next to Liv and held her hand as they waited for the results of the blood test. After years of helping Liv through her sobriety, Nurse Joy knew when to talk and when to just be present. What Olivia need in this moment was support and between Simone and Nurse Joy, they would make sure she got it.
Doctor Shaw came back into the room and took a seat.
"Congratulations Olivia. You're pregnant."
Simone covered her mouth in shock, Nurse Joy's eyes filled with tears, and Olivia finally smiled.
